Someone posted a photo of a tiny puppy and it made Explore today. It's not bad enough that someone had abandoned and threw it away once, but it was photographed and left alone a second time. I don't understand and I'm extremely upset by it. I don't mind comments, but please don't try to make excuses for either of these people. There's a better choice to what was done to this poor little puppy.
From the Belleplain State Forest website: "The forested acres of Belleplain include stands of young pine, oak and Atlantic white cedar, reflecting better soil conditions and less damage by fire than found in the Pine Barrens just north of the forest."

Chautauqua Fire Hydrant. Almost too pretty that you forget it's true purpose. Added several layers to make it more fun.
Four years ago, while on a photo safari trough the US Southwest, I was in downtown Page, Arizona. As I wandered through the downtown a few times, I kept noticing a very cool fire hydrant painted up in a patriotic US flag inspired theme. It was situated adjacent to a gas station on a corner and I kept saying to myself I had to come back to it and photograph it. So on my last afternoon in Page, my travel companions dropped me off while they did some shopping, I assumed various un-flattering postures while trying to get the shot I wanted. Loved the colours as well as the juxtaposition of fuel and water, ‘cause you just never know. And in the deep blue skies of the Southwest, the in-your-face colour just had to be captured. I love hard light. No polarizer, I case you wondered. - JW

Taken using a hand-held Nikon D7100 fitted with a Nikkor 18-105mm VR lense set to 18mm, ISO100, Daylight WB, Aperture priority mode, f/7.1, 1/320 sec with an EV+0.33 exposure bias. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: scale image to 8000wide, crop image to a 4x5 format by cutting off the left side of the frame, apply Tone Mapping at default levels, slightly darken the image by setting Exposure Compensation to EV-0.17 slightly increase contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, increase vibrance slightly, shift the white balance slightly by shifting the Blue/Red Equalizer slightly to the red, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: use the Tone Curve tool to darken the underside of the pump canopy (ans well as the sky), save, scale image to 6000 wide, sharpen slightly, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 1800 wide for posting, sharpen slightly, save.
I use to work in a fire hydrant factory. Parking was very expensive I kept getting hosed.

I went out took this shot loaded it, said I took it yesterday. Changed the date...AGAIN...went back out took it AGAIN loaded it AGAIN & now it says Jan. 8...ugh... I did not take this tomorrow....
