Like autumn turns leaves, winter will breathe, cold on our necks, snow in our paths.

Wherever she goes, all that I know about us is that beautiful things never last,

That's why fireflies flash.

Recently, Taiwan has a great mass fever of watching and shooting fireflies. Many eco parks or mountain area become very popular. Hope we will not hurt the living environment of these precious little creature.

13" exposure of fireflies behind Glade Road Growing's farmstand

"Glade Road Growing is a small family farm on leased land across the street from the Heritage Park in Blacksburg. We raise certified naturally grown produce and pasture-raised organic-fed meats and eggs. Yes, we raise it right here in the town limits of Blacksburg.

We believe that healthy food can be grown right here and that engaging in organic farming forms lasting connections within our community, improves the soils directly beneath us and strengthens human health. Our farming methods are based on building and maintaining soil health, biodiversity, and community involvement (read: fun). Come by and introduce yourself- we’d love to meet you." Radnor Lake is one of my favorite places in Nashville. Lightning bugs on a summer evening just make it better.

I've never seen so many fireflies all together. A 30 seconds exposure in a meadow between Padula and Sala Consilina.

Mass of fireflies on a warm slightly rainy night.

While there are a few high fliers, most of the activity seems to happen below 5-6 feet or thereabouts. So I thought I'd have a go shooting with a telephoto straight across the field. This is just over a 5 degree field of view on the diagonal, focused off in the distance so the larger the blob, the closer the firefly.

It's also 25 minutes worth of activity, but over such a small section of the field, you can imagine they were really on the pull!

Fireflies around an old split rail fence in the Cascades Day Use Area, Giles County, Virginia.

"Cascades Day Use Area is one of the most popular outdoor recreation spots in southwest Virginia. It features shady picnic spots, a native trout stream, and a 4-mile scenic loop trail. The main attraction is the scenic 66 foot Cascade Falls, a dramatic waterfall located two miles from the parking area." (www.fs.usda.gov)

"The Lampyridae are a family of elateroid beetles with more than 2,000 described species, many of which are light-emitting. They are soft-bodied beetles commonly called fireflies, lightning bugs, or glowworms for their conspicuous production of light, mainly during twilight, to attract mates. Light production in the Lampyridae is thought to have originated as an honest warning signal that the larvae were distasteful; this was co-opted in evolution as a mating signal in the adults. In a further development, female fireflies of the genus Photuris mimic the flash pattern of Photinus species to trap their males as prey.

Fireflies are found in temperate and tropical climates. Many live in marshes or in wet, wooded areas where their larvae have abundant sources of food. While all known fireflies glow as larvae, only some species produce light in their adult stage, and the location of the light organ varies among species and between sexes of the same species. Fireflies have attracted human attention since classical antiquity; their presence has been taken to signify a wide variety of conditions in different cultures and is especially appreciated aesthetically in Japan, where parks are set aside for this specific purpose." Went down to Corryton, TN to see the synchronous fireflies phenomenon. Was pretty neat! Way harder to photograph than I thought it would be. If you miss the national park lottery next year, I'd definitely check out Molly Branch!

Got around to reworking my Tommy Firefly. :) Made it DBG this time instead of the LBG. Added some hedgerow cutters, some spare "binocular" tracks to the turret and side of hull, and changed the arse a bit. Even with the changes, it is still my smallest Sherman, part count wise. Only 540 pieces. :) And yes, before anyone asks, there is an entire fig in the turret. I have already reworked the turret box, again. I will update the pic when the render is done. :)
