The Lightning Bugs are out, have a beautiful summer weekend everyone! Extreme heat coming so I got out by the river this morning while the weather was still pleasant!
Fireflies (Lampyridae) are a type of beetle, the adults feed on pollen and nectar ... each species has its own pattern of flashing which is thought to be a warning to predators of an unappetizing taste. Scientists are not sure how the insects regulate this process to turn their lights on and off.
Here is my entry. Jayne is in the cockpit, because I like my pilots to have big guns. And of course, his iconic hat is the base.
Fireflies light up the fields while a small break in the clouds reveals the stars above. I stacked 5 photos to capture more fireflies in the foreground and used the sky from a single frame to make this image.
Firefly was one of my favorite TV shows for a while and I recommend it to you if you havent already seen it. This ship definitely had an odd shape which made it hard to create but made it kind of fun in the end.
