Neat new generic Fire Engine with a classic twist in its styling. You might have thought we would have seen chrome with the license fee its saved but overall very pleasing for its budget price point. Part of Case E. Mint and boxed.
This 1812 patent was signed by President James Madison, Secretary of State James Monroe and Attorney General Charles Pickney. It begins: "The United States of America/ To whom all these letters patent shall come: Whereas Allan Pollack and Jacob Perkins, citizens of the United States, have alleged that they have invented a new and useful improvement in the fire engine..." The patent aimed to improve the engine's valve construction.

For some strange reason I don't really like the original Matchbox version but when its turned into a cheap Chinese copy then magically it becomes much more appealing! Many Chinese toy makers have somehow found this generic Airport Fire Engine alluring enough to copy but probably the best known and easily available version is the one made by Feisu. It is predictably a bit roughly finished casting wise compared to the original but for its bargain basement status it still remains an all metal model and is fairly crisply cast. Bought back in August for just 50p from a Poundland Clearance store and judging by its High & Drive packaging it is obviously ex 99p Stores stock. Mint and boxed.

No trip to the Far East, particularly Japan obviously, would be complete without bringing back some Tomica! Despite one of the very first diecasts bought for me as a toddler being a Tomica its a brand which has never really had the chance to shine here in the UK and indeed Europe despite their obvious appeal.
I'm certainly no Tomica newbie but due to high prices online its always been a peripheral brand in my collection and so spending three weeks in Japan has gone a little way in correcting that balance. A combination of an extremely favourable exchange rate and availability every bit as good as Hot Wheels is here ensures I brought back suitcases full of them! ;-p
In many retailers and with additional tax free discounts a lot of the Tomica mainline models actually cost less than what most of UK stores charge for Hot Wheels which is definitely a sobering thought!
This gorgeous little Morita Fire Engine Type CD-1 is typical of the diecasts produced by Japans favourite toy car brand, an unashamedly domestic themed vehicle with a heavy metal content, great detailing and working suspension.
Found in a BIC Camera store which proved a good and inexpensive source.
