Resources from throughout Santa Barbara County came together at UCSB to run a full scale HazMat drill. The scenario had Engine 17 arrive on scene to find a victim on the third floor surrounded by an unknown chemical. The victim was pronounced DOA and a full HazMat response was initiated. Santa Barbara County Fire, Santa Barbara City Fire, Lompoc Fire, Montecito Fire and Carp-Summerland Fire all took part in the drill.

1953 Morris Minor
Preserved, ex Morris Motors, Cowley

This cute little fire tender started life in 1953 as a prototype of the Morris Minor van, but was converted to serve the Cowley factory fire department. It was small enough to travel between the assembly lines and replaced a 20 year old appliance. It remained in front line service into the British Leyland era, being transferred to the reserve fleet in 1983 and finally retired in 1990.

The Feuerwehr is a number of German fire departments. The responsible body for operating and equipping fire departments are the German communities ("Gemeinden") and cities ("Städte"). By law, they are required to operate a fire-fighting force including Emergency medical services (EMS) in numbers corresponding to the inhabitants of the county or city. In cities, this is usually performed by the Fire Prevention Bureau, one of the higher-ranking authorities.
Most of Germany's 1,383,730 fire fighters are members of voluntary fire brigades, with a lesser number working in professional fire brigades either operated by
a municipal body, such as the city of Berlin (Berufsfeuerwehr - full-time city department)
a larger company ("Werkfeuerwehr", for the needs of the company operating them) e.g. refineries or chemical industry production facilities
airports to meet the ICAO requirements ("Flughafenfeuerwehr" - this includes airplane factories like that of Airbus in Hamburg)
the armed forces ("Bundeswehr-Feuerwehr" with specialized divisions such as "Fliegerhorstfeuerwehr Cologne-Wahn"/located at German air force bases, military bases, naval bases as well as on any ship of the German navy).
By law, cities with a population of more than 80,000-100,000 people (depending on the state) are required to have a professional fire fighting force ("Berufsfeuerwehr"). Others such as smaller cities and towns can set up a full-time force ("Hauptamtliche Wachbereitschaft"), which is basically a group or a squadron occupying one large fire station around the clock. This force deals with smaller incidents on its own and is supported by voluntary forces for larger incidents. Each community meets the need of fire-fighting personnel by setting up a voluntary force ("Freiwillige Feuerwehr"). A community or a city may also set up a professional fire fighting force without additional volunteer forces. In case it is not possible to recruit enough personnel for this job, the mayor of a city is required to set up a "Pflichtfeuerwehr" (compulsory fire brigade), where he will draft the number of personnel required.

With 2 1/2 Ton Crash Truck . Able to produce foam , these fire trucks were the staple of both U.S Army airfields and base operations in the 1960's and 1970's. Our unit protected the Hueys of the 119 Aviation Company( Assault Helicopter) known as " The Redhawks"
These engines had beefier springs since they carried 400 gallons of water and 40 gallons of foam. They were also powered by a turbocharged 5 ton diesel engine.

When these beautiful little 1975 Mack CF Pumper models began to flood the pegs of Poundland back in late 2015 early 2016 it was inevitable quite a number would come home with me. Part of a batch which was still laden with generics this shone out like a little diamond as it was both new and licensed and a true Matchbox Emergency vehicle devoid of Hot Wheels style crazy and pseudo-futuristic styling. Its a fully acceptable blend of plastic and metal which doesn't particularly scream cheapo with its crisp looking cab design and good use of chrome effect plastic panels. I for one can't wait to see its new recolour. Mint and boxed.

Another one of the generic Matchbox models which Chinese toy makers are obsessed with copying is the odd looking Airport Fire Engine which Feisu have maximised to include a Police SWAT version! LOL. Its obviously a cheapo diecast though at least its body is made of metal plus the livery looks quite believable. Bought as a single from a 99p Store where they are sold under the High & Drive brand. Mint and boxed.
