Believe it or not this is a "controlled burn". Prairie in this area is burned every few years. According to my limited knowledge on the subject the reason is to get rid of invasive species and let the natural grasslands grow back better and thicker. In this case the wind started to gust and the fire flared up. As we watched from the roadside we could feel the intense heat and moved along rather quickly. A mile down the road the fire was out and already raptors and vultures were circling over head looking for small dead animals. We plan to take a drive to the area today and see how many raptors we can spot.
From seemingly nowhere, spilled glowing lava like cords of orange neon-lighting. In the blackness that engulfed the night, electric heat lit flowing streams that fell into the sea, disappearing in a cloud of steam with a sizzling splash.
Another picture of the fire from last night. Although this was when practically everyone there had thrown a block of wood in and.. well, this was the result.
Apart from putting in the watermark and a slight edit to the contrast this isn't edited that much at all. Looks pretty awesome I think :D
FACT: Those marshmallows were yummy.

EXPLORED!!! (Jan 16, 2011 #20)
Despite having a sound idea, I've really struggled with this weeks challenge. Working with the matches was unpredictable as it was difficult to light a single match without igniting the others. The final image is OK, but doesn't really justify the time spent.
For the 'Macro Monday' - 'One of These Things is NOT Like the Others' challenge 25th April 2016.
While we were in Kansas City they had what they call the water and fire festival. They put out what look like metal baskets with large cylindrical bouys next to them in the creek near down town. At night they load the baskets with wood and set them ablaze. There are probably almost 100 such baskets that they put in curvelinear lines.
"insane inside
the danger gets me high
Can’t help myself
got secrets I can’t tell
I love the smell of gasoline
I light the match to taste the heat
I’ve always liked to play with fire"

I visited state 47/48 this weekend and the cold, rainy weather meant I got warm and cozy in a ski lodge with this awesome fire!
The fires are still burning and the evacuees still in the city (Winnipeg). This is a scene that we are "used to seeing" downtown, but not in the suburbs. Until now. Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The really sad part is that when the snow comes or the fires are out? There may be nothing left for them to go back to. So what happens next?
From a recent photo shoot directed by Rob Woodcox and produced by NorthRidge Church. More to come from this shoot! If you follow my stream you'll end up seeing just how crazy this production was. More fire, circus acts, horses, and other awesomeness to come :)
