From a website: Located in the Western Rhodopes of Bulgaria, Devil’s Throat Cave is a popular attraction for tourists, spelunkers, and photographers as a subterranean paradise. Enormous and slightly malevolent, the cave descends straight in the depths of hell, with the waters of the Trigrad River plunging 137 ft. into “The Hall of Thunder”. The second largest cavern in the country, the Hall of Thunder houses a funnel through which the water escapes, flowing 500 more feet before joining itself with an underground river. It is this this underground river that presents the most interesting feature of the cave—nothing carried into the Devil’s Mouth Cave by the river ever surfaces from it on the other side.
I am thinking about the past few years, and all the different apartments I have lived in.
Each one has its own character, and always brings a completely new chapter in my life.
Some places are old, some are brand new. Some a very very dirty, and some have beautiful 70's inspired kitchen.
Some have orange walls, most of them have plain white.
It wasn't until I slept at my parents house last night, for the first time in a while, that I remembered what home felt like.
I look forward to the day where I have my own place to relax in. Bur for now, I am pretty happy with my little adventures.
I am saying goodbye to my currently place, packing up the final things.
I shot the entire front door, including a small dog, because I think front doors have a lot of character.
I am starting to work on it now, but here is a test shot for that image that I kind of like.
Today we walked Ruby in the two nearest small woods and it was lovely and peaceful with no traffic noise and no people just birdsong so a lovely meander with no disturbance. Just three images for today some leaf buds a small clump of moss and then one of my played with leaf images.
Kerouac said "“No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy, even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength.”
So, broken down in the woods, night falling, no clue as to the solution--this is a good thing, heh Jack? Long before cell phones and AAAuto club rescues--the dogs and I just sat and thought and tried to imagine how we could have been so happily bumping along the rutted road, and then just as quickly--face an unplanned night in the Bush.
It's a worrisome feeling, dread balanced with boredom. There's a lot of time to contemplate the sitation--there really should be some reading material in this old truck...perhaps a shop manual!
Time passes. And eventually a little Datsun 510 wagon comes down the road, pulls over, and asks if I need any help? Sure, I'll take help, what form of help d'ya got?
Well, they had beer. So we wet our whistle and sat and ruminated for a time. None of us was suddenly possessed by the Demon of Diagnostics, but just the frustration of all that talkng got me back under the hood with the boyscout knife (olden days--before Leatherman tools, as well). I'd already confirmed that I had plenty of spark, and I didn't want to pointlessly grind away and waste my battery. So--nothing ventured, nothing gained--I dismantled the carburetor, found plenty of fuel, and put it back together, without finding any obvious gremlin. This time, when I hit the starter button, Mr. Completely fired right up! On the Road Again! The dogs grinned, wagged their tails, and jumped onboard!
I never saw my three friends from the Datsun again. I've forgotten their names, if I ever knew them at all. I've concluded that the bouncing down that rutted road got the fuel bowl float stuck in the upward position in the carb, and that shut off the fuel--and tearing the thing apart, put that float back in proper alignment. So I learned something, I suppose, though not at the time.
Well, actually--another Kerouac lesson learned right at that moment as well--
“What is the feeling when you're driving away from people, and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? -it's the too huge world vaulting us, and it's good-bye. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies.”
Night falling, I rolled down off the mountain, remembering my Good Samaritan roadmates, and how the unplanned day had turned out so well. When you don't know where you're going, all roads will take you there.

Scientists are working tirelessly to find the key to unlock the secrets of the virus that plagues us.
Meanwhile, many politicians seem to be trying to undo those efforts.

From physicist-surfer-savant Garrett Lisi's post, this is "perhaps the most momentous day in particle physics of the century.
The Higgs boson [aka "God particle"] is the Holy Grail for particle physicists because it is the missing link that provides a description of how all particles get their masses and how they interact with the gravitational field.
Now that we know the existence of the Higgs boson, this is just as significant as finding out that, in fact, atoms do have these hard little nuclei. We don’t know what the implications will be decades down the line from this discovery, but they will surely be huge."
An overview: Garrett Lisi's video, and various anticipatory links below.
