Not sure what this man was doing, he stood in front of a light box and closed his eyes. Meditation? Searching for some peace in this crazy city? SOOC.

I've used "Flood" software in a more subtle and hopefully appropriate way here after my initial overkill...still think it's a useful tool to have. hope you like!

When things are looking a little dark in my life I always like to focus on any small thing that I am grateful for and usually other things that I'm grateful for follow easier and soon I am thinking of all the many many reasons I am grateful about my life and then my day doesn't seem so dark after all. This image reminds me of that. I do it every day, sometimes more than once, and this has made all the difference in my life. Have a lovely Thursday and be grateful the weekend is nearly here..... Whoop!!

Where have I been the last couple of months? I have been buried in the most challenging and rewarding project I have ever taken on- and I am so happy to say, it is finished and online to be enjoyed!

I present to you, "Finding Oregon." It is a 3.5 minute timelapse video showcasing the beauty of Oregon in the most powerful way I am currently able to capture. I have been smitten by the beauty of Oregon since I moved here, and this is a love letter to her.

This image here is an edited frame from the opening credits and a scene later showed in the video. I had spent alot of work in post figuring out the star trail method to use in the video and I knew I wanted to make a still using the same effect. After months of working on timelapse, it's felt great to be back working on a still image! The shot is a "stack" of an entire night, and the images were taken by my new business partner John Waller. He shot it, I've processed it. Together we work with two other guys at Uncage the Soul Productions (www.uncagethesoul.com) on projects like this and many other exciting things. "Finding Oregon" is an Uncage the Soul piece and was only possible because of the support and hard work of the rest of the guys there. Check us out at our website or look for us on Facebook.

Big thank you to Darlisa for posting a screenshot on her page giving us a shout out. Darlisa, that kind of support means alot :-) Check out her link, she's got a great photo book she's working on.

I'm sorry I've been MIA for so long, the timelapse video became my obsession. It's done now, and there's lots more timelapse on the horizon, but I hope to get back to regularly taking starry night stills also. ...not sure how that all works out though!

Keep your eyes and ears open for an upcoming behind the scenes video.

Finding a subject

I had just been talking to a friend about finding photographic subjects. I told him to look around him, and find something within an arms reach, then think about compositions and make it a photo. As I talked with him, I was enjoying my morning coffee at the kitchen island. In front of me sat a few veggies that got left behind from making dinner the night before. The morning light streamed low through the nearby window. Deciding to take my own advice, I viewed the objects from different angles thinking there might be a photo here. This image was the result. Your challenge today is to make a photo of something around you.

If there's one place in my life that I always find solace it would have to be Melbourne. We had a number of Wedding pictures taken there and its also somewhere I have sought when the news as not been so good. I really don't know why it speaks to me so much but I always feel an inner calm when I arrive. The calm can be broken a little when a stonking sunset sky comes along though.

I recently spent two weeks in Maui. And, I think I have found paradise. My lovely bride and I had this beautiful spot on Makapipi Stream all to ourselves for close to two hours. One of the best "two hours" I have spent.

In coveralls, mittens, and warm clothes I walked out to the ridge to watch the sun come up this morning.

I stood for a moment looking for the exact spot the sun would appear next to my favorite cropland tree.

Its not often I've seen a Bell Miner in the bush although I hear them often. This day I was treated to a long visit out in the open in front of me. 20211209-EM5-PC098314

There is a concrete pillar off the East coast of St Mary's Island. It was originally built in 1914 as a rangefinder to calibrate coastal defence artillery guns at Tynemouth Castle during the First World War. It was used for the same purpose, and possibly modified, during World War 2.

The top of the pillar is showing signs of wear but it appears to have withstood the daily battering from the North Sea pretty well.

Nothing is more peaceful than laying down bullion knots. Each time I fall in love with it again and again and again .. :-)

Have a wonderful weekend!
