We spent two nights in Shirakawa-go, a historical village in the mountains of Japan. Shirakawa-gō (白川郷, "White River Old-District") is one of Japan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, located in Gifu Prefecture. The village has wooden farm houses with straw roofs. This house is for temporary use, it can be constructed and dismantled relatively quickly.

I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the curves and color balance.

Whew, it's been a while...and I hope everyone's doing well. I finally made a winter trip to Roan Mountain! What a ride. My buddy Tommy and I arrived before sunrise just in case something might break through (it never did). It wasn't terribly cold, low/mid-20s I think...but the wind oh boy. At the lower elevations around Carvers Gap, there was plenty of wind cover, but once we reached the top of Round Bald...my goodness. There were some brief pauses in the wind but the gusts were 35+ I'd say and if you had your face into it...any skin exposed felt burnt pretty quick. I wasn't sure I'd get any shots worth a darn, but luckily got a couple I think, this being one of them. It was the first time I've ever had my front lens element to start frosting over. Pretty harsh up there, but I'd do it again :-)

Venice Beach

Venice, California.

Legend has it that the Superstition Mountains are home to a rich vein of gold, its location known only to a few, all of whom took its secrets to their graves. Although many have entered the Superstitions in their quest for this gold, for more than 130 years no one has succeeded in finding it, and not all of the explorers have made it out alive. Many of them seem to have met with mysterious, violent ends.

For the less adventurous, perhaps the safest way to find the gold of the Superstitions is to show up at sunset, in Lost Dutchman State Park (Apache Junction, AZ), on an evening like this one.

I went to the Redwood forest hoping to find my flow. And soon I was neither sad nor happy...I just was.

Some places give you that feeling. That feeling that everything is right.

If this squirrel doesn't like what's on the ground it makes it way up to the feeder. Usually there isn't anything that can prevent them from getting to the feeder.

Finding beauty in the banality of life.

Sometimes it's difficult, impossible. Or not.

No sun here today but this big fella taking a rest on the large sunflower petals in the garden. They sure are wonderful looking flies. HFDF folks have a great day and weekend.

Last of these from the first location. I like the branches in this one, especially with the last of the autumn leaves clinging on! Back to normal tomorrow :)

This Marbled Godwit has found some food in the sand and in a just a moment that morsel will wend it's way up the beak and provide nourishment for this bird. I have no clue what kind of animal is being eaten here ;)

Getting back into doing some photography after a bit of a hiatus.

I found this cute little outfit at Asteria on the weekend sale this week. Paired them with some of my favorite pumps from Gos!

Macro Mondays theme "Balance"

We go through our lives in a fast-paced world. Finding the perfect balance between our professional and personal life can be a daily struggle. As a result, stress became an issue in our society. Meditation and mindfulness can help. And so is the act of balancing stones. This requires our full attention, and helps us to live in the moment. And believe it or not, reduce stress. 😉

This little stack of stones measures 2 1/2" from top to bottom, including the flower.

Have a stress free Macro Mondays!
