... finally reaches the woods :)

I finally get to post something that is not in flat light. Having spent most of my recent photography hours at the coast, I've been on a streak of only finding a subject in the shade or overcast, or pre sunrise and post sunset. This Solano County juvenile Red Shouldered hawk in golden hour light finally broke that streak.

Cricket finally starts. This was East Harlsey's second eleven's first game of the season, away to Danby CC.

East Harlsey were bowled out for 63 by an excellent Danby team, who them knocked the total off without losing a wicket. But the result didn't matter.

“I’ve finally given in, my eyes are shut under the blindfold. I can hear and smell, but I cannot see. My hands are clammy I feel cold yet I am warm. It is what I wanted, but I am now unsure, dubious yet at the same time excited and curious. I would like to think I feel a bit like Alice just before she fell down the hole into the rabbit hole. Yet there are no rabbits here… not even those of the rampant persuasion.”

It Feels & Looks Like Summer Is Coming!!!

Wishing Everyone A Wonderful Evening!!! :-)

After setting in Jeffersonville for years rusting away, 54 with no future in sight, 54 finally has new paint and a new life. Sunrise bought it and restored it to running condition for use around the South Charleston plants. This here is my first time seeing it run, as it pulls a cut of hoppers into the grain facility.

Finally the world seems to be taking note of the over use of single use plastics. I wrote my design thesis on environment package design well over twenty years ago and little seems to have progressed over most of that time. Now, thankfully companies and governments are starting to at least make noises that things need to change.

The Arizona "Nonsoon" finally turned into a Monsoon!

The sky was starting to turn dark as I stuck my head outside yesterday afternoon, and the clouds were building up.

I ate a quick dinner then grabbed the gear and headed out. Went to a spot that I thought might be good and waited for the sun to go down. Once it was starting to dip below the horizon the storm started to kick in. I was able to get this shot and one other before the rain started pouring down on me in biblical proportions!

Hopefully this storm will be the catalyst that gets our proper monsoon season started.

Out of all the times I've been to the UP Bloomington Yard I never caught this in action and this day I finally got to. 12/3/16

After getting skunked repeatedly for eastbounds on the CP in the morning before work, I finally nabbed 182—thanks to a slow order west of Tower KR.

Finally got a pose I was searching for. Beautiful high fog and

soft light was the forecast. Had lots of great ops and close fly byes. Click for large view.

Despite it making several trips through the area, the timing just never worked out for me to catch NS 8114...until this evening! Here, the Norfolk Southern heritage unit leads westbound racks past the intermediate signals at MP 309 on the Chicago Line.

I have not seen one in some time

As seen in the previous photograph, this chair has needed a new seat cover for a long time. I thought I'd show the cute fabric print and give a shoot-out to Spoonflower.com. You choose a pattern and then they print it on the type of fabric you select. I think the sturdy cotton I picked gives it a feeling of vintage barkcloth.

After I filled the holes in the seat, I added "elbow patches" of linen over the areas the cats liked scratching the best--to slow down future damage--before the final fabric covering.

With the looming DJI ban along with the growing thought that I should, I finally gave in and bought myself a drone, not a super fancy expensive one, but enough to do the job (just in case I leave it on the side of the road in Idaho). Despite my early convictions that they made people lazy, and I do believe that they do, some won't even get out of their car to take the photo, I didn't want to miss out. I will say that it is pretty cool, does open up new shots, and has made me think differently about the hobby.

Coming into Durand with a short train, the Huron & Eastern "Rocket" swings around the Port Huron Wye and will prepare to back in to yard their train.

After a day out over Buttermere, trying to rediscover my passion for photography (which I feel is now back after a lovely day out alone) I was driving home and seen some colour over Keswick, so obviously the hope was that there was no one on the jetty at Ashness, and luckily, I had it all to myself. After seeing so many great shots from here, and after trying numerous times myself, finally I have a shot from here that I am very happy with.

The longest exposure i've ever done aswell at 240 seconds. I did do a couple longer but they turned out VERY noisy, but will try and work with them at some point.

Commencing operation a year ago, this weekly return service is the longest mineral haul in Australia carrying processed mineral sands from Broken Hill in New South Wales to Perth in Western Australia. The loaded westbound train grosses between 9,000-10,000 tonnes.

The last month in the Sonoran Desert has largely been a "nonsoon" as we've remained in a severe draught mode. It has been so frustrating to see storm clouds build and even hear thunder, and then have the rain miss us each and every time. However this past week we've actually gotten some good downpours from monsoon. So happy the cloudy weather is finally paying off with some much needed rain!
