Some advise needed ???

Why doesn't my backgrounds look as good as other bird photography I see on here ??

Any suggestions please (and I promise I do not take offence at any criticism )

As always thank you for stopping by as your support is always very much appreciated.

Take care and have a lovely day my flickr friends :))

This image shows the roots of a Florida Strangler Fig (Ficus aurea) girdling a host tree at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary (Florida). Stranglers start out as air plants (epiphytes), the host tree being unharmed (commensalism). Seeds, possibly carried by birds, germinate in branches of a host tree. Over months and years, the fig grows roots downward until reaching the ground. The strangling roots become profuse and eventually may kill the host tree.

This strange Florida native tree has flowers that are pollinated only by Fig Wasps, which can only lay eggs in fig flowers; a strange mutual partnership!

So , the Strangler Fig starts out commensalist, then a parasite, then a symbiont!

Antonio Banderas checked the fig trees area to harvest this morning at 7am.

Came across this magnificent fig tree at Neal Macrossan Park in Paddington, Queensland, last weekend, while geocaching, a new hobby I have taken up.

The park is quite historic: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neal_Macrossan_Playground

Tavira Castle, locally known as Castelo de Tavira, lies in the town of the same name in the Algarve region in Portugal.

It is not known when the first castle at this site was built. Some sources say a fortress here was already being rebuilt by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC. The present castle, however, probably dates back to the 11th century.

There was a castle here when the town was taken from the Moors in 1242 by the knight Don Paio Peres Correia during the Reconquest. In 1244 the castle was granted, by King Sancho II, to the Order of the Knights of Santiago who renounced this donation 30 years later. In 1293 King Denis ordered the remodeling and reconstruction of Tavira Castle because he recognized the importance of Tavira as a base of defense against piracy. The castle and town suffered heavily from the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.

Tavira Castle was a small, roughly rectangular, castle. It now consists of remains of two square towers, one octagonal tower and walls on three sides. None of the towers possess the characteristics of a keep, although there surely must have been one. Its interior is now used a small garden. You can climb the walls and the towers. The castle can be visited, for free, during the daytime. Google

Happy Tree-mendous Thursday/HFF from San Diego!! :))

Heute soll es hier mal sonnig werden. Ich wünsche allen einen guten Start in die neue Woche!

Ich zeige euch hier nochmal ein paar sonnige Impressionen vom Schloss Sanssouci in Potsdam.

Today it is sunny here. I wish everyone a good start in the new week!

I will show you some sunny impressions of the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam

On second thought, they do seem to be water repellent

I walked down to the bottom of what we call the 'secret garden' this morning to take a few photos. The bench is a favourite place of mine to sit and breathe it all in. There are numerous trees in this part of the garden including the very large walnut tree which you see and many fig trees. The fig trees are currently producing a glut of figs so there's no shortage of those. There is a small river to the left which, when we arrived here in May, had a plentiful supply of brown trout but very sadly, earlier in the month we noticed that dead fish were floating to the surface or being carried by the water downstream. Every evening we would watch from our terrace a really large heron swoop in for its "quick n easy" supper. There's always winners and losers in the natural world, eh? We've since discovered there was a small chemical spill further upriver which caused the demise of the fish. There are (or were) lots of crayfish in the river too and one day we found them around the house and in the swimming pool as they were attempting to flee the problem. What a trek it must have been for them to get out of the river and clamber up towards the house and pool. Sadly, none of them survived. Ending on a positive note, the river is now clean and the local authorities are preparing to restock it with brown trout.

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my photostream,I am grateful for all feedback, comments and faves

A fig after the rain

On the coast where the stone sings and pine trees whisper, fig trees grew beside every home. Humble and quiet, they nourished generations with their fruit, asking only for sunlight, a few drops of rain, and the peace of evening.

Today, after a summer rain, the leaves glisten, and the fruit grows in silence — ready to nourish another memory.

So this is my 'Guardian of the Galaxy' photograph which I have today, Thursday 26th December, 2024, re-edited to deepen the blue in the sky.

I took this photograph from my favourite rock platform at Kirribilli, on Sydney Harbour. It is accessible via a forest of giant figtrees. You don't actually see the rock platform until you get right down to the harbour level.

The girl in the image is Zoe. I discovered Zoe at sunset and bizarrely she was carrying a lamp. She held the lamp up to the harbour as the dusk descended in some kind of esoteric, enigmatic, gesture.

And for Zoe, here is 'The Cult' with 'She Sells Sanctuary'.

A bit like Zoe, lol. And she likes this song.

Fig Tree

Also while wandering in the garden today I spotted the first figs forming on our tree. I don't know which variety they are, the tree was well established when we moved in.

So last Wednesday afternoon - 29th May, 2024 - I took a walk around Kirribilli before the start of the Vivid lightshow at 6.00pm.

Kirribilli in many ways is a rather Bohemian part of the city with its hip cafes, narrow streets, resident artists, and a sea of old-world apartments that afford glimpses of the harbour.

So along Waruda Street, just near the Mary Booth Lookout Reserve, there are apartments with their shared palm & pine trees, as well as a giant Port Jackson figtree - and, notably, the apartments have views across the harbour to the city and the bridge.

And here is the cool, jungle vibe of Jazzanova with 'Bohemian Sunset:

Bijela pastirica u svom plesu

Među suhim lišćem i smokvama, mlada bijela pastirica (Motacilla alba) izvodi svoj tihi ples.

White Wagtail in its dance

Among dry leaves and figs, the young White Wagtail (Motacilla alba) performs her gentle dance. Her steps are light, her body agile, and her tail never ceases to wag playfully. Common across almost all of Europe, she is often seen near water but also in orchards and gardens.

For many, the White Wagtail is a symbol of cheerfulness and the quiet beauty of everyday life.

Barbados is a lovely island located in the Caribbean Sea Windward islands. The word “Barbados” means “bearded ones,” and it refers to the fig trees that explorers were drawn in by during their excursions to the region several centuries ago.
