The little fig tree in my yard is really filling out, and seems very happy, despite the drought and record heat. Now that it has begun producing figs, the squirrels have taken a great interest in it, bouncing from thin branch to thin branch, in search of the ripest ones. I doubt any of them will make it to my plate this year.
I completely forgot to tell our cat sitter to water our garden while we were on vacation. So quite a few things did not do so well. The fig tree did ok (it has lost it's leaves, but it's already budding some new ones) and the figs are starting to ripen nicely. There are 37 total figs on the little tree and it's definitely bending under the burden....I just have to decide what to do with all of them...Eating out of hand is the first option, my second thought is some sort fig jam or something similar. Mmmmmm fig jam.
Our little figtree – we have it now five years. the first years we had it in a pot which we took in wintertimes into our house. Last year we planted it outside at a protected place. When frosty nights came wo protected it with a great sack. It survived and has this year first little fuits (see next photo)
