Der Olympiaturm ist ein Fernsehturm in München und eines der Wahrzeichen des Olympiaparks. Die Höhe des Olympiaturms beträgt 291,28 m. Es befindet sich ein Restaurant und eine Aussichtsplattform auf 171m und 192m Höhe. Die Bauzeit betrug 3 Jahre (1965-1968).

Close to Alexanderplatz in Berlin-Mitte, the tower was constructed between 1965 and 1969 by the administration of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It was intended as a symbol of Berlin, which it remains today, as it is easily visible throughout the central and some suburban districts of Berlin.[1] With its height of 368 meters, it is the tallest structure in Germany, and the second tallest structure in the European Union (by a half-metre).
Der Fernsehturm ist seit 1991 für die Öffentlichkeit geschlossen. Nur das technische Personal kommt noch in den Genuss solcher Aussicht.

In 1964, Walter Ulbricht, leader of the Socialist Unity Party which governed East Germany, decided to allow the construction of a television tower on Alexanderplatz, modelled on the Fernsehturm Stuttgart and the first artificial Earth satellite, Sputnik. The original total height of the tower was 365 metres, but it rose to 368 metres after the installation of a new antenna in the 1990s. The Fernsehturm is the fourth tallest freestanding structure in Europe, after Moscow's Ostankino Tower, the Kiev TV Tower and the Riga Radio and TV Tower.
Das muss ich bei Gelegenheit mit etwas mehr Brennweite wiederholen. Vielleicht kommt mein `Lieblingstürmchen' dann noch etwas besser zur Geltung.
Der Fernsehturm ist im Frühling und Herbst bei vielen Sonnenuntergängen in der Nähe, wenn man an der Alster steht. Genau davor ist dagegen nicht ganz so einfach hinzubekommen, da braucht es schon etwas Glück.
Die Stadt setzt sich übrigens endlich dafür ein, dass er nach fast 20 Jahren wiedereröffnet werden kann: Mein Opa war 2001 noch mit mir oben, kurz bevor er geschlossen wurde, das erinnere ich noch so ein wenig. :-)
The TV tower in Hamburg is often visible during sunset in spring and fall. But exactly in front of the sun is more difficult, I need some luck for that.
The government said, after almost 20 years it maybe can reopenend: I remember a little, that my grandfather was with me on the top just before they closed in 2001. :-)
