The follow up to the "Sitting" shot from yesterday - taken 8 days later. Three hungry mouths to feed!
In recent years, rhinos have been threatened by poaching, urbanization and pollution, which have left certain rhino species on the brink of extinction while leaving other species severely endangered.
Rhino horns are in great demand in many southeast Asian countries like Vietnam. The Chinese use it as an aphrodisiac and make traditional medicines with it. More than ever, rhinos need care and conservation now. Organisations and non-profit groups across the world are engaging in anti-poaching measures.
The rhinoceros is our planet’s armoured giant. There are five species of rhino – white and black rhinos in Africa, and the greater one-horned, Javan and Sumatran rhino species in Asia.
The white rhinoceros or square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) is the largest extant species of rhinoceros was busy grazing at sunset. Photographed during a photography safari on a late evening game drive in the open savannah plains of Africa.
As I do every so often, I have posted the exact same image as yesterday's post, but this one is processed more realistically than that soft and nostalgic image.
I have also flipped it horizontally just for fun.
Which one between the two do you prefer? Or do you like them equally?
Many photographers don't enjoy time spent on processing their images. Not true about me. I love every minute of it, creating lots of variations for almost every image. It fulfills my need to create, and now that I'm retired, I have a lot more time to enjoy my photography :)
It is feeding time at Eagle watch this morning. Glad to report that we have one healthy baby in the nest. Seems to have a very good apetite for a little one!
Feeding time again.
Starlings are rearing their first young ones here and are constantly busy finding them food.

(01/365) I have 2 of these bird feeding stations in the garden & they are both very busy today (better viewed Large). Great Tits, Greenfinches, House Sparrows & Goldfinches are vying for the popular Sunflower Hearts. Thankfully I have found a local supplier where I can buy a 25kg sack for just €25 which lasts them about a month. We have bright sunshine with blue skies but there's a biting North wind. The birds must know there is a cold snap due. Happy New Year to all my wonderful Flickr friends.
My first photo for my 2017 : one photo each day group, if you fancy a daily photo challenge this is the group to join :)
- on a chilly and grey winter's afternoon we took a walk around a local market town
- the girls' mother was sitting on a nearby seat and I checked with her for the photo and promised I would not take a face view
thank you for your visits, faves and comments
When I arrived at Brighton Beach this morning there was a host of Silver Gulls, including many juveniles, feasting on food brought in on the sea weed and sea foam. There was a great deal of noise and the not infrequent stand-off. A lone Crested Tern cruised over the site at one point to see what was on offer, but didn't seem particularly interested.
Looking for lunch during feeding time at Bwlch Nant yr Arian, well worth a visit to see as nearly 200 birds at the same time. They appear from nowhere at 15:00 BST every day.

The bluebird chicks in our yard fledged last week, thanks to the tireless efforts of their mom and dad. We've also had to add weekly mealworm purchases to our grocery list.
Sanderlings are small Sandpipers that run along shorelines, pecking at the wet sand left when waves recede. This group is in a feeding frenzy for crabs!

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR VIEWS, COMMENTS AND FAVES
VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
I know that just like when taking a photo of a train the going away shot hardly ever receives positive acclaim. Photo taken last week on a visit to the nature reserve at Vendicari. The subject a shellduck is seen feeding in typical fashion. These birds feed on the flowing tidal water, but not much around high or low tides, mostly sieving the mud for the tiny snail Hydrobia which forms the overwhelming majority of their diet. They also eat shrimps, small clams Macoma and ragworms; I don't known what the inland breeders feed on.
Black Tern. Another bird that doesn't really belong here. Chlidonias niger

A busy female Hooded Oriole feeding two hungry growing chicks, on a warm California spring morning in May, on the banks of the Russian River, in the heart of Sonoma Valley's wine country.
Collared Kingfisher feeding. The chicks are in the hole nest in the tree. The parents find food and keep feeding the chicks whole day.
