Nice traditional Newfoundland biscuit box house in Trinity East, Newfoundland. A larger example of this style of home, this example boasts a double set of full length bay windows and a side porch, two features not seen on all examples of this style. The double bay windows really add to the look of this house.
Thrilled to have one of my images featured across the BBC Springwatch social media platforms over the festive period.
There's some work done to my place which entailed emptying out some storage areas. I found my old 35mm film cameras and supplies and had a memory fest. This is a late 1950s Ansco Super Memar on the left and a late 1980s Kodak V35 K60 snapshot on the right. More photos to follow. A friend and regular of the Axis, Shawna, saw the Ansco and said she had a similar camera from Germany! ( the Ansco is an American version of the Afga Silleto ) She still has I and wants to bring it in. Look for a photo soon !
Last July, the Webb telescope released its very first image: the deepest and sharpest image ever seen. Zooming in on the data, scientists found 3 young, distant galaxies similar to rare, small galaxies called “green peas” in our cosmic backyard. Because the light has traveled so far to get to us, we’re seeing these 3 galaxies as they were up to 13.1 billion years ago.
Specifically, the galactic trio share chemical characteristics — oxygen, hydrogen, and neon signatures — with “green pea” galaxies. (“Green peas” resembled green dots in their discovery images.) Due to their similarities, researchers may be able to study nearby “green peas” in detail to learn more about distant early galaxies.
While Webb’s infrared vision is incredibly sensitive, in this case Webb had some help from space’s “magnifying glass.” The effect of gravitational lensing meant that the mass of the galaxy cluster in Webb’s image actually magnified these tiny, distant galaxies by up to 10 times.
The farthest of the 3 galaxies contains only 2% the oxygen found in a galaxy like ours. This suggests the galaxy is extremely young, as it contains very few heavy elements (like oxygen) recycled from earlier stars. Learn more: www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2023/nasa-s-webb-telescope-r...
In this image: The James Webb Space Telescope’s Near-Infrared Spectrograph captured the chemical fingerprints of selected galaxies behind SMACS 0723, including three faint, distant objects. When corrected for the wavelength stretch caused by the expansion of space over billions of years, the spectra of these galaxies (shown in red) exhibit features emitted by oxygen, hydrogen, and neon that show a stunning resemblance to those seen from so-called green pea galaxies found nearby (in green). Additionally, the Webb observations made it possible to measure the amount of oxygen in these cosmic dawn galaxies for the first time. The spectral lines have been stretched vertically in order to clarify these relationships.

Image description: Two different sets of spectral data, comparing the chemical fingerprints of green pea galaxies with young, distant galaxies observed by the Webb telescope. On the top is the green pea galaxies data, shown in two squiggly horizontal lines of bright green, and below that is the Webb data, shown in three lines of red. The data sets share remarkably similar line patterns representing the elemental signatures of oxygen, neon, and hydrogen. From left to right, both data sets generally start off with a high frequency of peaks and dips, which gradually taper out into just occasional peaks by the end.
Alright, presenting this celebration's first wave of the Follower Feature! Man, there was so much talent out there this time around. After searching through hundreds of photostreams, I got it down to sixty brilliant MOCists out there... but unfortunately this time I'm just doing twenty. Plenty of room for them once I hit 500 though! :D As always, I'm trying to find the best of the best, those that know their parts and yet just didn't get the luck of the draw to instantly become famous. Hopefully we'll fix that.
At the head of the pack, we have chris.kruining! I don't know about you, but I found their Nuva revamps fascinating. They are clever new takes on classic characters with new color schemes and armoring. But if that isn't enough, be sure to check out their combiner/Kaita builds, including an Akamai revamp that is coming along wonderfully. Oh, and a snazzy Exo-Force spaceship.
For those of you in the Instagram Bionicle community, geoastrocat might be a familiar face to you. His every creation is photographed with such skill and character that they seem to jump right out at you. I for one really enjoy the unique and well-balanced color schemes he employs in many of his MOCs.
Though relatively new to the Flickr MOCing scene, MrEpicDragun is off to a great start with their Hau Maximus design. I mean, who doesn't love hulking skull monsters with double flaming mohawks? :P Their greebly, CCBS style reminds me much of MrBolttron.
Christmas is coming early (or is it late?) for rednas36. I've seen them around BZP, but never realized they had a Flickr account until they made me a stunning Christmas gift of Onuku receiving a Krana "for study." And what a Flickr gallery it was. Their bizarre assortment of monsters, Skakdi, and... is that a space marine?... has given me plenty of great creative fodder. I love how they use everything from System to masks to treads to achieve wonderful shaping.
westrichjenny is another new face to this community, but I really do like where they're going with that self-MOC. There's something almost... manga-like in the short and powerful proportions done with a strange assortment of parts.
Stay tuned for more fantastic MOCists, and if you haven't already, be sure to enter the Self MOC Raffle!

here i was featured in an article about lighting, thankyou to flickr.com/photos/vlad_mercado/ for sending me the pages! havent got a copy of the magazines yet, this is from the digital copy.
I'm also on the subscribers magazine cover! i dont think this comes out in England, but they have offered to send me both magazines when they are available on newsstands.
While several other familiar geothermal features in West Thumb Geyser Basin were showing muted colors on this cool, overcast day, this small, unnamed pool displayed a variety of colors from the pale aquamarine crystal clear water in the deep pool to an assortment of bacteria, algae, and other "extremophile" life forms in its shallower, cooler runoff. This striking feature is in the "Venting Pools" area of the basin.

Devils Tower (also known as Bear Lodge Butte) is a butte, possibly laccolithic, composed of igneous rock in the Bear Lodge Ranger District of the Black Hills, near Hulett and Sundance in Crook County, northeastern Wyoming, above the Belle Fourche River. It rises 1,267 feet (386 m) above the Belle Fourche River, standing 867 feet (265 m) from summit to base. The summit is 5,112 feet (1,559 m) above sea level.
Devils Tower was the first United States national monument, established on September 24, 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. The monument's boundary encloses an area of 1,347 acres (545 ha).
Source: www.nps.gov/deto/index.htm
Many People, Many Stories, One Place
The Tower is an astounding geologic feature that protrudes out of the prairie surrounding the Black Hills. It is considered sacred by Northern Plains Indians and indigenous people. Hundreds of parallel cracks make it one of the finest crack climbing areas in North America. Devils Tower entices us to learn more, explore more and define our place in the natural and cultural world.

Devils Tower National Monument, a unique and striking geologic wonder steeped in Native American legend, is a modern-day national park and climbers' challenge. Devils Tower sits across the state line in northeast Wyoming. The Tower is a solitary, stump-shaped granite formation that looms 1,267 feet above the tree-lined Belle Fourche River Valley, like a skyscraper in the country. Once hidden below the earth’s surface, erosion has stripped away the softer rock layers revealing the Tower.
The two-square-mile park surrounding the tower was proclaimed the nation’s first national monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. The park is covered with pine forests, woodlands, and grasslands. While visiting the park you are bound to see deer, prairie dogs, and other wildlife. The mountain’s markings are the basis for Native American legend. One legend has it that a giant bear clawed the grooves into the mountainside while chasing several young Indian maidens. Known by several northern plains tribes as Bears Lodge, it is a sacred site of worship for many American Indians. Devils Tower is also remembered as the movie location for “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”
The stone pillar is about 1,000 feet in diameter at the bottom and 275 feet at the top and that makes it the premier rock climbing challenge in the Black Hills. Hikers enjoy the Monument’s trails. The 1.25-mile Tower Trail encircles the base. This self-guided hike offers close-up views of the forest and wildlife, not to mention spectacular views of the Tower itself. The Red Beds Trail covers a much wider three-mile loop around the tower.
Source: travelwyoming.com/places-to-go/destinations/national-park...
While America’s first national monument garnered significant attention as the backdrop to the 1977 Stephen Spielberg movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the tower is sacred to Northern Plains Indian tribes and the Black Hills region Kiowa Tribe. With oral storytelling and a history that dates back thousands of years, today, American Indian tribes continue to hold sacred ceremonies at the tower, including sweat lodges and sun dances. There is more to this monument than its rich history. You can stop at the visitor’s center to learn about one of the ranger-led programs, night sky viewing, hiking and even climbing to the top of Devils Tower. If one day isn’t enough to explore this unforgettable area, bring your camping gear to stay within the monument, or stay just outside or in accommodations at one of the nearby towns.

Afternoon with the Sawback Rnage featuring The Finger (left of centre), Banff National Park, Alberta
Recent thoughts of Hasselblad cameras and Instagram have me practicing composing for a square format.
Always fun photographing the Sawback Range of mountains. I waited for quite some time for the sun to light up The Finger. The closest I ever got to my goal was a small pool of light just below this feature.
I am featured as a part of an article on Flickr in the March issue of What Digital Camera magazine. I was thrilled when approached about doing an interview for the feature. Now, seeing the results, I am filled with emotions- happiness, amazement, shock and joy (just to name a few). It is still hard for me to believe and I can’t wait to get a ‘real’ copy in my little hands! Being in a magazine is a lifelong dream for me and I am so excited to share this experience with me Flickr friends and fans. Without all of you this would have remained only a dream! I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping to make this girl’s dream a reality!
I copied the text below for those of us who do not have superhero eyes. I hope some of you enjoy learning a little more about me.

"Carolina is a graphic artist and self-confessed 'computer geek' who has one of the most unusual Flickr photostreams, in that all of the photographs are of her. Her stunning looks and often provocative poses has also made it one of the most visited too, with nearly three million views. It isn't an original idea of course, but what elevates Carolina's work is the skill and artistry involved in their creation.
'I love having my photo taken' confesses Carolina, who discovered Flickr through a friend. 'In the beginning I thought it would be fun to post photos of myself wearing my collection of Juicy Couture clothing. After my photos began to get more popular I started pursuing a lifelong dream of modeling. I grew up in a family that was always taking photos and I have always loved being on both sides of the camera'
Carolina studied photography at college, and is an avid consumer of fashion photography. Some of her pictures are self-portraits but most are a collaboration with her partner Allen. 'We work well together,' she continues. 'I come up with most of the ideas, including styling, locations and poses. I also do any Photoshop post processing. Allen is great at directing and shooting.'
Carolina is very prolific. 'I like to post a new photo everyday. It keeps me motivated. My mind is always thinking of new ideas. At weekends we go out to locations I've thought of during the week.'
Carolina and Allen use an Olympus E1 and E500. 'I love the Four-Thirds system and have several lenses,' she enthuses. 'We are also lucky enough to have a studio in our home, with both continuous and flash lighting systems, and a 10ft backdrop which is kept erected all of the time, as if it were furniture. That motivates us for those unplanned shots too.'"
The building originally featured a 14-story tower with a ziggurat roofline, vertical racing stripes, and a symmetrical design. It blends this 1940s styling with later, famous whimsical, all-white interior renovations.
The Hotel features iconic outdoor pool facilities, including a famous, stylish main pool equipped with underwater music and a dedicated lounging area. The property boasts two pools—one legendary and one new—alongside private cabanas and direct beach access.
The hotel features a rooftop area known as the Delano Rooftop Solarium, which offers 2,000 square feet of space with 360-degree views of the ocean and Miami Beach. While typically utilized for events, cocktail receptions, and featuring a rooftop spa (Agua), it provides a scenic, high-up vantage point.
The building is undergoing a major renovation and is scheduled to reopen in March 2026. Located oceanfront on Collins Avenue, this legendary Art Deco hotel is being reimagined by Ennismore, featuring redesigned light-filled rooms, updated culinary concepts like the return of the Rose Bar, a spa, and two pools.
Features: The renovated property will include oceanfront accommodations, poolside bungalows, a reimagined Rose Bar, four new dining/bar concepts, a world-class spa, and a state-of-the-art wellness studio.
The building has historically featured, or had planned, basement areas. Notably, it housed the Florida Room, a basement bar and lounge. Renovation plans for the property have previously involved structural work on the basement level, such as installing micro piles for support.
Florida Room: The hotel featured a famous basement lounge, the Florida Room, designed by Lenny Kravitz.
Design: The revamp aims to blend the hotel's 1947 Art Deco heritage with modern, soft minimalist aesthetics, led by Elastic Architects and Ennismore's in-house team.
The hotel, formerly a staple of the Morgans Hotel Group, was closed in March 2020 before this extensive renovation.
Designed by architect B. Robert Swartburg, the Delano was built in 1947 by Rob and Rose Schwartz and opened on December 15, 1948. At 14 stories plus a 35-foot tower, it was one of the tallest and earliest of the Postwar Modern, or MiMo, hotels in Miami Beach. The 1994 renovations were designed by Philippe Starck. The hotel was named after US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Detailed side by side photos of the newly released 2015 Rapunzel Deluxe Feature 16'' Singing Doll versus the 2011 Limited Edition Rapunzel 17'' Doll, both by the Disney Store. Because of the singing and light up features of the Rapunzel Feature Doll, her right arm is not fully articulated, and her head only swivels, and doesn't tilt up or down. Her hair is shorter than the LE doll, but it is braided, so if it were straightened out, it might be as long. They are both golden blonde hair with gold tinsel. The Feature doll has a light up lantern as her accessory, which is better by far than the LE doll's brush. Their outfits are similar, but the LE doll's is much more elaborate and fuller, and is embellished with jewels. The LE doll also has a satin and tulle petticoat under her skirt. The LE doll has a more mature looking face, with long rooted lashes, and she is glancing to her upper right. The Feature doll is looking forward and slightly up, and has many short painted lashes both above and below her eyes.

Alizey Khan NGC3603 Acrylic on canvas board, 18"x18"
A close-up of the dying warrior from the pedimental sculpture of the temple of Aphaia at Aigina. The East Pediment is more stylistically advanced than the West and must have been carved a generation later, about 475 BC. Though the statues are well documented as having been looted during illicit excavations in 1811, smuggled out of Greece, and auctioned in Malta before making their way to Germany, there has to date been little interest paid in repatriating them to Greece – where they might be displayed next to the well-preserved temple which they once decorated.
