Faults are quite common in orogenic belts. Faults are defined as fractures in rocks along which differential displacement has occurred. Dip-slip faults are those involving movement of rocks in non-horizontal directions. Strike-slip faults involve movement of rocks in horizontal directions.
The two common types of dip-slip faults are normal faults and reverse faults. Normal faults form by extensional stress. Reverse faults form by compressional stress.

Tomales Bay is what makes Point Reyes a peninsula; under the bay runs the San Andreas Fault.
I knew Crystal Springs Reservoir on the San Francisco Peninsula is also over the San Andreas Fault, so I went and looked at the satellite view. Sure enough, you can see that Tomales Bay and Crystal Springs Reservoir line up (or, more easily, that CA Highway 1 and Interstate 280, which follow these bodies of water, line up).
I look at this picture and mostly see the faults, the faults of the flower and the faults of using equipment that, for this purpose, feels like doing delicate work with a chainsaw.
A random event, I think. I was getting into the rune essence mining area when this happen, then I got a few rewards(they call it compensation) for getting out of here.

The rock hammer provides scale. From handle base to the top of its head, it's 11 in (28 cm) long.
In Part 8 of this set. I first introduced the concept of geo-kintsugi, another one of those coinages of mine that has built up an impressive track record of being of no interest to anyone else. But I sure do like it, and just considering its ramifications has already given me hours of fun. In fact, it's become a real idée fixe, very much like an unshakeable musical earworm theme.
The Japanese root term, kintsugi, is one of the most thought-provoking and uplifting forms of art ever devised by the human mind. It involves making a virtue out of the imperfection caused by breakage—as in broken shards of pottery. When those shattered pieces are put back together, they're cemented with a golden, glittering glue that emphasizes the cracks and the whole process of rebirth through reassembly.
As a result, the reconstituted bowl or cup or sake bottle proclaims rather than hides what it's been through. The magnificent asymmetries and added strength revealed by the golden joints make one almost want to pity any thing or person with a claim to perfection.
To me, the clastic sedimentary rock known as breccia, whether produced (as here) by the grinding action of fault motion or not, is geo-kintsugi. Perfectly good rock units, in this case the Orienta Sandstone with some Chengwatana Volcanic Group basalt too, have been torn apart into angular fragments. And then they've been glued back together, so to speak, before those particles could travel far enough to get smoothed and rounded.
In this case, the cementing matrix wasn't gold, but it still makes it clear that a lot of breakage has been mended. To quote some obscure poetaster, "Our world is one giant kintsugi factory showroom full of reconnected collectibles, and we do ourselves an injustice in limiting our sense of aesthetics to mere human works."

The tour's next stop was at the building located at 22622 Mission Street, currently occupied by the Tattoo Shop. The front part of the building has been bolstered by steel reinforcements. The back of the building, where the plain brick is apparent, is unoccupied. Tour participants examine shifts in the parking lot pavement gutter above, further evidence of movement caused by the Hayward Fault.
On April 7, 2012, Professor Mitchell Craig of California State University, East Bay reviewed the history and science of the Hayward Fault. After the lecture, he conducted a walking tour of the fault in downtown Hayward. This event was co-sponsored by the Hayward Public Library and the Hayward Area Historial Society.
This event was part of the California Reads series featuring a community-wide reading of A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster by Rebecca Solnit. The series was kicked off on April 7, 2012, with a Read-A-Thon, followed by Prof. Craig's lecture and walking tour.
The keynote event is an appearance by award-winning author Rebecca Solnit on Saturday, April 28. The series will end with a Personal Emergency Preparedness Training with the Hayward Fire Department on May 12.

An earthquake fault recently found under the Pacific Star Winery on the Northern California coast was named the Pacific Star Fault after the winery; the winery celebrated by naming a new wine, "It's My Fault". It's recommended that TWO bottles minimum be given by anyone needing to take blame!

not a great box of eggs too many cracked. Cracks in both boxs are on one side and that is her fault for hitting with milk. Annoyed as hell with that. Annoyed that when I was getting ready to let that blasted dog go I dropped my LED work light and dented a 71.4g egg. So 6 useless eggs, 4 from her one my me and 1 was leaking prior to purchase. I should be carrying and transporting the eggs myself. Might buy more tomorrow like a madman if I get the fit.
Kolob Canyons, also referred to as the Finger Canyons of the Kolob, occur in the northwestern corner of Zion National Park in southwestern Utah, USA.
Kolob Canyons occur immediately east of the Hurricane Cliffs, which sit at the western boundary of the Colorado Plateau Physiographic Province. As is the rest of the Colorado Plateau, Zion Park and the Kolob Canyons area consist of ~horizontally-oriented sedimentary rocks. In the Zion Park area, the rocks are almost entirely Mesozoic in age.
The main scenery-making unit at Kolob Canyons is the cliff-forming Navajo Sandstone (Lower Jurassic, possibly Upper Triassic? as well). The Navajo is a thick, cross-bedded, eolian quartzose sandstone deposit representing migrating sand dunes in an ancient sand sea (erg facies). The reddish coloration is due to hematite cement and hematite staining (hematite = Fe2O3). In places, the Navajo Sandstone lacks hematite staining and is whitish-colored.
Bottom-up weathering and erosion of Navajo Sandstone cliffs has produced blind arches in places, which are large, arch-shaped structures.
Differential weathering and erosion has produced a pitted surface on some Navajo Sandstone cliff faces - this is honeycomb weathering. Honeycomb weathering is common in just about any cliff-forming sandstone unit.
Underlying the Navajo Sandstone is the Kayenta Formation (?Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic). The Kayenta consists of fluvial redbeds (reddish-colored, hematite-rich siliciclastic sedimentary rocks such as shale, siltstone, and sandstone deposited in river and floodplain environments). The next unit down is the Moenave Formation (Upper Triassic), also consisting of nonmarine redbeds. representing stream, floodplain, and lake deposits.
In the Kolob Canyons area, the Kayenta and Moenave Formations are noticeably tilted due to their proximity to the tectonic boundary between the Colorado Plateau and the Basin and Range. Minor faulting has occurred and several Kayenta-Moenave roadcuts along Kolob Canyons Road show nice normal faults.
The light of a setting Sun turns the Navajo Sandstone cliffs ablaze with fiery orangish-red coloration. This effect can be experienced in several American national parks.
October 3, 2013. Boston, MA.
City Life/Vida Urbana members and community activists for the third week in a row protested outside of the Boston Housing Court. Protesters assert that taxpayer owned banks, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, have been evicting families ‘no fault’ at alarming rates in Boston and throughout Massachusetts. Four people including longtime housing activist and one-time mayoral candidate Mel King committed civil disobedience in front of the courthouse and were arrested.
The group is pressing for a stop no fault evictions until Mel Watt is confirmed to the FHFA. Ed DeMarco is the current head of FHFA, which oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. DeMarco has resisted community-stability based solutions to the foreclosure crisis, such as principal reduction or long-term rent contracts. Pres. Obama has nominated Congressman Mel Watt to replace DeMarco. These government sponsored enterprises are 79% owned by taxpayers and they are currently among the largest mass evictors within the state, displacing thousands of working-class people and eviscerating communities of color. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac own over half of mortgages in Massachusetts.
