Shes kind of anti-social. Which is my fault. I'm picky about who I hang out with. That, and the kids that try to play with her are usually twice her age. Shes only 2 1/2, but shes the size of a 4 or 5 year old. In this picture shes winding down from a playdate that we went on today. It was 80 degrees outside, and we took the kids outside right around noon, so the sun was pounding down on us pretty hard. I had to stand a certain way, to cast a shadow onto charlie who was on my chest in the carrier. She played with tennis balls and hula hoops. She can't hula of course, but she thought she could. I always feel myself being over protective when I see her interacting with other kids. I want to tell them not to take things from her, and yell at them when they make her cry. This is instinct, right? I realize that after a few seconds of my insane motherly rage, take a deep breath, and remind myself that I can't hover over her and protect her every second of every day. She needs to learn on her own. Experience life.
Sometimes I forget that shes only 2 1/2.

Faults are quite common in orogenic belts. Faults are defined as fractures in rocks along which differential displacement has occurred. Dip-slip faults are those involving movement of rocks in non-horizontal directions. Strike-slip faults involve movement of rocks in horizontal directions.
The two common types of dip-slip faults are normal faults and reverse faults. Normal faults form by extensional stress. Reverse faults form by compressional stress.

Tomales Bay is what makes Point Reyes a peninsula; under the bay runs the San Andreas Fault.
I knew Crystal Springs Reservoir on the San Francisco Peninsula is also over the San Andreas Fault, so I went and looked at the satellite view. Sure enough, you can see that Tomales Bay and Crystal Springs Reservoir line up (or, more easily, that CA Highway 1 and Interstate 280, which follow these bodies of water, line up).
I took this picture for more than the score. I took this picture because this is the center of Memorial Stadium. The center of Memorial Stadium sits atop the Hayward Fault. During the pre-game announcements, it was advised that in the event of an earthquake the fans get and stay off the concourse and move to the field.

An earthquake fault recently found under the Pacific Star Winery on the Northern California coast was named the Pacific Star Fault after the winery; the winery celebrated by naming a new wine, "It's My Fault". It's recommended that TWO bottles minimum be given by anyone needing to take blame!

Kolob Canyons, also referred to as the Finger Canyons of the Kolob, occur in the northwestern corner of Zion National Park in southwestern Utah, USA.
Kolob Canyons occur immediately east of the Hurricane Cliffs, which sit at the western boundary of the Colorado Plateau Physiographic Province. As is the rest of the Colorado Plateau, Zion Park and the Kolob Canyons area consist of ~horizontally-oriented sedimentary rocks. In the Zion Park area, the rocks are almost entirely Mesozoic in age.
The main scenery-making unit at Kolob Canyons is the cliff-forming Navajo Sandstone (Lower Jurassic, possibly Upper Triassic? as well). The Navajo is a thick, cross-bedded, eolian quartzose sandstone deposit representing migrating sand dunes in an ancient sand sea (erg facies). The reddish coloration is due to hematite cement and hematite staining (hematite = Fe2O3). In places, the Navajo Sandstone lacks hematite staining and is whitish-colored.
Bottom-up weathering and erosion of Navajo Sandstone cliffs has produced blind arches in places, which are large, arch-shaped structures.
Differential weathering and erosion has produced a pitted surface on some Navajo Sandstone cliff faces - this is honeycomb weathering. Honeycomb weathering is common in just about any cliff-forming sandstone unit.
Underlying the Navajo Sandstone is the Kayenta Formation (?Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic). The Kayenta consists of fluvial redbeds (reddish-colored, hematite-rich siliciclastic sedimentary rocks such as shale, siltstone, and sandstone deposited in river and floodplain environments). The next unit down is the Moenave Formation (Upper Triassic), also consisting of nonmarine redbeds. representing stream, floodplain, and lake deposits.
In the Kolob Canyons area, the Kayenta and Moenave Formations are noticeably tilted due to their proximity to the tectonic boundary between the Colorado Plateau and the Basin and Range. Minor faulting has occurred and several Kayenta-Moenave roadcuts along Kolob Canyons Road show nice normal faults.
The light of a setting Sun turns the Navajo Sandstone cliffs ablaze with fiery orangish-red coloration. This effect can be experienced in several American national parks.

Structurally folded sedimentary rocks in the Cambrian of Tennessee, USA.
The folded rocks shown here are part of the Rome Formation (Middle Cambrian). Folds (and faults) are common in mountain belts formed by tectonic collision - this example is in the Appalachian Mountains, which formed by collision between Africa and North America during the Pennsylvanian. This ancient mountain-building event is called the Allegheny Orogeny. The supercontinent Pangaea formed at this time.

I could never fault anything by Freddy Mercury. This recording of 'Time' from the Stage show of the same name. It only managed No 32 in the charts in the UK remaining for just 5 weeks. this single is backed with an instrumental version of the song incidentally written by Freddy and the producer of the show Dave Clark.
