"Camera collector and AP columnist Tony Kemplen explains how a second hand camera's faults and shortcomings can lead to a variety of creative possibilities."

Three page article in this week's Amateur Photographer in which I talk about some of the lucky accidents and semi-planned results I've had from some of my old cameras.

San Andreas Fault. Temblor Range to the left, Soda Lake Road a few miles to the right...er, west. Looking at it another way, the North American Plate is on the left; the Pacific Plate is on the right.

Taken in Dry Cave, WV during July 2013 survey trip. We surveyed 1153 feet (GRN designation) in only 29 shots.

To the disappointment of many, 50026 suffered a traction motor flashover departing Keighley on the early afternoon train to Oxenhope on 25 May. Due to some great work by the volunteer crew, it was back up and running during the evening on the Saturday.

I think there is a harddrive controller fault in my cow-orker's machine. Or maybe some malware.

Beecher’s Fault, the Queens-based band cofounded by Ben Taylor ’10, returned to Boston in January 2014 to play at the Middle East Bar in Cambridge.

Normal faulting in the Basin and Range Province (seen here in southeastern Wyoming) resulted in the tilting of these triangular blocks.

This is Chris' old bike rebuilt as a tribute to him. Here we are on the Crystal Springs Reservoir in Northern California. The San Andreas fault goes right through here. You can't get here by car. Maybe that's a good thing. It's a nice walk and a beautiful bike path... For more about this picture go here (you have to search by name for jean davis):

Structurally tilted & folded sedimentary rocks in the Cambrian of Tennessee, USA.

The deformed rocks shown here are part of the Rome Formation (Middle Cambrian). Folds (and faults) are common in mountain belts formed by tectonic collision - this example is in the Appalachian Mountains, which formed by collision between Africa and North America during the Pennsylvanian. This ancient mountain-building event is called the Allegheny Orogeny. The supercontinent Pangaea formed at this time.

Locality: roadcut along the eastern side of Rt. 25E, immediately south of the Copper Creek Thrust Fault (= same outcrop), just south of the Clinch River, north of Clinch Mountain, far-northern Grainger County, northeastern Tennessee, USA (36° 22' 54.64" North latitude, 83° 26' 48.86" West longitude)

This forms the boundary with the Walls Peninsular where rocks on opposite sides of the fault have moved relative to each other by more than 100 kms, mainly during the Devonian and Middle Jurassic periods. Showing as a shallow depression with a boggy floor, the fault has crushed and crumpled schist on the West side against tougher granite on the East. Subsequent erosion of the schist formed the sandy bay exposing a steep cliff of granite. This is the best exposure of a shear fault in Britain.

Expensr takes the time to ask me to create an Alias when I first use it. However, I cant read most of whats on the screen, the nice lil graph has obscured it all.

Like any other fault, strike-slip faults may terminate in zones of ductile deformation. In brittle terminations, the displacement is distributed through several branching splay faults. These small faults, curved away from the strike of the main fault, form an open, imbricate fan called a horsetail splay. This example is located in the Goldfield Nevada strike-slip fault system.

Along the mid-Atlantic ridge many fault lines have opened in the surface of the rock, this one has filled with water to create a deep, crystal clear lake.

Taken about an hour into a flight from San Francisco to Chicago. I wonder what caused such a pattern in the rocks below- looks too big and uniform to be water erosion.

portion of magnetic induction part of the impeller as recovered from the body of the device - the nature of the way in which the impeller is rotated means that any rotation of the two parts of the magnetic induction parts (held together when in situ) will still rotate the impeller BUT irregularly

Recovered files from a Quantel Paintbox video painting system previously used at Tyne Tees TV around 2000. All images are 720*576 but some are anamorphic widescreen so will appear vertically stretched.
