. . . . Not a number !

Isn't it a shame its not number 6 or we could have a whole " The Prisoner " thing going ?

The sun was going down fast so really warm light but it was freezing cold .

Well,it was too difficult to capture this little bird( don't know its name:-( !!!)

It was too fast ,but finally managed to capture it ^_^

Autumn is the faster season in mountain. You may need to be ready to capture his best moments. The first rains take away with them the magical and colorful leaves adorning the alpine landscape.

This shot was made in one of the best mountain villages of switzerland: Soglio, in the Bregaglia Valley. In the background we can admire "Sciore", the famous castle of granitic peaks of the Bondasca, at the border with italian Valmasino.

After the CNJ 113 trips, attention changed to the Reading and Northern's North Reading Fast Freight, which was sporting a very nice set of power, including RBMN SD40-2 3059 on the point, which was making its debut run in a brand new coat of green and yellow...

Running 25 minutes or so later than usual, the R&N NRFF hustles eastbound along Lowland Road in Hamburg behind SD40-2 3059 plus SD50-2s 5020, 5018 and 5021 with a decent sized mixed freight behind them.

387106 and 387303 approach Sandy on the Up Fast, working 1P87 10.13 Peterborough - King's Cross.

This working is unusual for a GTR service on this route, firstly because it runs to King's Cross and is a Great Northern service, whereas most are Thameslink services which run to and from Horsham (south of the Thames). It is also a class 1 train, whereas the Thameslink services run as class 9. On Saturdays there are three Up trains (at 08.13, 09.13 and 10.13 from Peterborough) and three Down trains (at 16.36, 17.36 and 18.36 from King's Cross) which do this. There are also five Up trains in the weekday morning peak and five Down trains in the weekday evening peak like this, and three each way on Sundays.

All of these trains have a more limited stopping pattern, in the case of 1P87 on Saturdays (at least) calling only at Huntingdon, St. Neots and Biggleswade. Sandy (which only has platforms on the Slow Lines) is missed by all, but only a handful of Up trains - 1P87 being one of them - run through Sandy on the Fast. Thus 1P87 crosses from the Up Slow to the Up Fast immediately south of St. Neots, and on this occasion was delayed by about three minutes at St. Neots while at the platform, waiting for a Hull Trains service to overtake (it was four minutes late) - although it was still on time arriving at King's Cross.

I hung on here for this because I'd expected it to be a pair of class 387 EMUs rather than a 700; most workings on this route are 700s, and transfer of the 387s to Southern has already begun (with replacement by ex-Greater Anglia class 379s, which have been in warm storage for nearly two years, soon to begin), and I think I've got very few (if any) pictures of 387s between Hitchin and Peterborough. I didn't initially realise it would be on the Fast Line, pictures on the Slow Line being better, in my opinion, but realised when I saw it had a red signal at St. Neots so had time to change to a longer lens.

Taking a break from my Antarctic series (which, by the way, you will be able to see at the upcoming Slidefest on 30th of January, organised by GPP) I wanted to do a quick post with a Dubai image from a familiar location.

I’ve been going to this same location for close to two years now and for some reason I always like going there as there’s always a new twist to the images I come back with. This time it was the clouds. Really fast moving clouds that I initially went to capture in a timelapse and ended up capturing in a long exposure image that I’m very happy with it. The clouds were looking great not just because they were fast moving, but the direction in which they were moving made them look like some sort of rays shooting out from the back of Burj Khalifa.

Initially I was shooting with an ND filter, but in the end I didn’t need it anymore as it was getting fairly dark and I managed to get a 2 minute long exposure at f22.

Here is the Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus), actually running on the road, with his prey. They can run up to 15mph and snatch insects from the air.

If you compare this image side-by-side with a picture of the Looney Tunes Roadrunner running, you'll notice the resemblance. =)

Here's the coyote!

This view shows the mouth of the sea-cave that runs in below the castle. Legend has it that a shaft once existed that could be used to bring up supplies and lower people wishing to leave unobserved, directly to or from a boat below. It's a nice story, even supported by MacGibbon & Ross, but sadly untrue! The cave, which extends some 80 yards under the castle, has been explored and there is, nor ever has been, any penetration in its roof. The drawing made of Fast by the English 1548 (see Fast Castle #6) clearly shows a derrick crane above the mouth of the cave, that was undoubtedly there to lift provisions up from boats - and no doubt contributed to the 'secret tunnel' legend.

A very fast bird,I was lucky to get it at all...The sighting has been added to the Kestrel count!

Reminiscent of its last year of service on the N&W before retirement, J Class 611 hustles 12 cars of revenue freight on a deadhead move from Lynchburg, VA to Spencer, NC. Following the previous weekend's excursions out of Lynchburg, the passenger equipment was taken to Bristol, VA for excursions with the Southern 4501, necessitating freight cars to aid in braking so as to not wear out the brakes on the 611. This was the first revenue freight train powered by the 611 after its recent rebuild and it is seen here at Altavista, VA, heading south on the NS Danville District.
