A young woman walks through a carpet of leaves while still more leaves are falling from the avenue of trees which lead to Eglinton Castle.
Fall seven times, stand up eight.

ahhh...the colorful leaves of autumn in new england. there is always that to live for. it is so easy to take life for granted and see what is wrong with everything. it is the way my brain is wired and my brain is sick. i need constant reminders (like the proverb above) that pain is a part of the journey...i am supposed to fall multiple times - that is part of being human. i am flawed....very flawed - but even that is a gift. i am allowed to feel pain so i can once again feel joy. lately i have been feeling more downs than ups, i just need to pick myself up again...i am so tired, but i will get up again.
Fall color in Utah has been a big disappointment this year. I noticed the leaves on the aspens were falling off without changing color as early as late August. Unfortunately, the trend has continued and now there are entire groves of aspens without leaves. I expect this is due to the exceptionally mild winter we had. At least the scrub oaks and maples are getting a little colorful. Here's a spot I scouted while mountain biking in American Fork Canyon. This is the most color I've seen in the entire area! On the plus side, I got to see a nice bull elk right before I took this shot.
From just a few years ago at my old place in Mississippi in late Fall. Boy did my wife and I do lots of work. Yes Vicki I do miss it. However, the arthritis, bulging disk in the back and bad knees I am finding the easier life in Wyoming a bit more comfortable. I will always have fond memories. Some bad but mainly good.
Fall in the Gilman mine area - I just got this camera - Nikon P1100 and I'm most impressed - gotta play with it to learn bout it.
Let them fall
Let them go
The leaves can fly
They told me so
They just need the chance
To stretch and see
That they can soar
If we set them free

Colors are starting to change, my favorite time of the year.

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night’s decay
Ushers in a drearier day.

This beautiful female Belted Kingfisher was leaving her perch to go fishing. They are so quick and difficult to catch in flight.
Happy New Year!
The fall is the most colorful time of year in Upper Michigan. it's also the hardest to shoot for the most part with the effects of colder air blowing over the warmer waters of the Great Lakes. It is almost like we live near a cloud machine. When the sun does shine(most often early morning or late evening)the lighting can be beautiful added with the colorful trees. The ever shortening amount of daylight is an added challenge. This Tilden empty brought most of the good traits of fall together as it caught some sun near Garnet late evening on October 21, 2003. A single 6 axle became fairly common on the empties after CN took over. Often it would be a 6900 class "grey ghost" SD40-2 rebuild but the WC 45's showed up also as this shot of 6594 rolling west shows.

I always have a hard time describing the color of Ripley's coat - it's not orange, it's not rust, it's not brown . . . today I figured out the best way to describe it is "like the colors of fall."
Also an update - I am not done with my renovation yet, but what is left might have to wait until spring since the weather is not cooperating. I also started a new job a few weeks ago since the company I had been with for 12 years was being sold. It has been a very busy and stressful time, but hopefully the worst of it is now over and I can get back to doing more of what I love - taking photos!
