Over the weekend the decorative pear trees in the neighborhood were at their peak in blossoms. On Saturday I took a couple of photo walks to capture some of the springtime beauty of these flowering trees. The trees are located along the street and parking lot near where my wife and I live.
Berlin - Jüdisches Museum. "Fallen leaves" installation: 10000 faces punched out of steel are distributed on the ground of the “Memory Void”. Israeli artist Menashe Kadishman dedicated his artwork not only to Jews killed during the Shoah, but to all victims of violence and war. Visitors are invited to walk on the faces and listen to the sounds created by the metal sheets, as they clang and rattle against one-another.

The path was closed to the public but many people ignored the signs. Some work had been done on cutting a new path through the storm debris, such as these steps cut in a fallen tree, but further on it was quite tricky to get through.
The fallen tree is one of our benchmarks for river levels, but it floats as the water rises, so it isn't all that reliable.
I wanted to get some picture of the high water level in the river, so I these took from the bedroom window about 9:30 in the morning. The water is high this year, but fortunately the course of the river has moved more to the far side. Otherwise, with our back door less than 20 feet from the river, we'd be a bit more concerned.
Lovely light over this fallen tree in Wheelton Woods earlier today.
Heading towards the shortest day and the sun remains quite low in the sky for most of the day now. Rather nice effects of the sun being low in the sky are the long shadows and pleasing backlight especially on the moss on the trees.

The funny thing is, the other day another part of the tree had fallen and the city had to come clean it up just yesterday - the landlord of the backyard neighbors (whose property the tree is actually on) suggested that they remove some more of the tree because it was likely to fall again soon. They said no, they couldn't.
