This building stands in the heart of downtown Shreveport. These faded advertizements decorate much of the downtown...for now. They have a limited lifespan, and a lack of funds to preserve them.
The Once Busy “McCarters/Fruit of the Loom” now starting to get demolished.........
This factory here at Ballymacarry and the one at Shore rd. supported the majority of the town here (Buncrana) either directly or indirectly, and the fact it's now been torn down ,for me, personally, its sad to see it go, as I worked/helped in and around this and the other factories , for around 16 years off and on ( Since 1983 ) and i’ve alot of good memories and made alot of good friends here thats why I called it “Fading Memories ”.
I now live over the road from here and i pass it at least once a day , i look and see a light/ photcell /Air conditioning unit or something else electrical , and say to myself ,"I remember fixin' that or putting that up" , , such a shame to see it being torn down, I would much rather see it refurbished and reused, i can't help but think of the amount of work went into it.
I've fond memories of this place and the other factories (mainly here and Shore rd) as my father would've had me in workin over the summer and weekends helping him from a very early age( 10), passing him screwdrivers/spanners holding the torch/cleaning up/ or makin tea. I started as a gopher (go for this and go for that ) general tidyupperer, & tea boy, went on to become electricians labourer, to apprentice electrician , to qualified electrician, I've worked in this particular place before it was officially handed over to Fruit of the loom/McCarters (cleaning about 300 flourescent lights one summer holidays) It previously was the Chico factory (which made amphibious vehicles , (some pics and more info of them here www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055010533 )
Made alot of friends in here too, there were the odd days i hated to see the place too, same as most jobs, suppose, ( muttering things like ,Doom of the Loom (was goin to call it this first ) and Fruit of the Tomb as i passed through the security gates but overall it was a great place/ alot of good friendly people and the work was great, plenty of exciting, educational and challenging work for an apprentice spark trying to learn the trade.
As you can see, this place meant alot to me , as it has to many folk from Inishowen and the North West. Hopefully they'll create something good out of the ole place, and start a new heap of jobs and a new set of memories for another up and coming generation. So i’ve seen it’s birth and now witnessing its death , but hopefully i’ll see its resurrection and SOON.....:-)
Possibly might get around to taking more photos of the ole buildings before they finally disappear...
Also for anyone whos interested i found a good article on the place by one of the former owners Willie mc Carter www.inishowennews.com/07WillieMcCarter068.htm
BNSF 9928 and BNSF 5933 are seen here at track speed with a loaded Smither's Lake coal train southbound at MP 68.42, Moore Bar Road, on the BNSF Galveston Subdivision. BNSF 6247 and BNSF 6347 are the DPU units pushing hard on the rear.
Fading Fast! While I'm taking this, he starts to snooze a bit from the warm sun. But, the concrete was chilly.

A little Through The Viewfinder (TTV) action. TTV photography involves pointing your camera at an image that's already going through a camera, in this case the viewfinder on a TLR (Twin-Lens Reflex) camera. This was done through one of my newly acquired Spartus Full-Vue TLRs.

The Spa Valley Railways faded Class 73 sits at the rear of a train in Groombridge Station. This train was headed with a Class 33 and 37 at the front. This is the new Groombridge Station built when the Spa Valley Railway became a preserved railway. The original station building can be seen beyond the road bridge in the background on the left. Most of it's platforms are now under a housing estate and the line has to take a deviation around them!
Two boxcars sit near the Ottumwa Sub in Galesburg, Illinois. Both are ex-St. Louis-San Francisco, but one is in Burlington Northern with the logo fading through.
this is how I have felt lately. Fading, fading, falling, dissolving, disappearing. I've had more Alice dreams than I care to count in the past two weeks. when I can sleep that is.
I am alone today for the first time all week. it's very important for me to be alone, and often. it's been slow at work for my husband, so he has been home. and fucking up my chi. I love the man but I cannot work with him around.
so, you may have an overload of pictures today because I have been holding it in all week long.
And I'm driving a stolen car waitin' on that little red light
I keep tellin' myself everything's gonna be alright
Spesso ci teniamo aggrappati ai nostri ricordi, dicendoci che tutto va bene, perchè "deve" andare bene ...
But I ride by night and I travel in fear
That in this darkness I might just disappear
Ma per quanto stringiamo i nostri pugni ... ler mani restano vuote
