The lady on the left was Mrs. Bell and she taught us what was called "Expression". This photo has to be back in the late 1940's. Probably 1949 or so. I am one of the Frogs in the front row, the one where the marker is. Found this old photo and thought I would share it with my Flickr friends. Days of Yester-year. Photo was taken in the Auditorium of West Corinth Mississippi Elementary School.

These kids were one of the nicest we met there - cute too ;)
The Angkor is a ancient town made of about 30-40 temples. After a while some of the temples get repetitive but some are worth the visit. I will highlight them later in the post.
We ended up going to Angkor Wat three times. Early on the first day to catch the sunrise and then we were misled to believe people can’t go in so we left and got back there the next evening to discover heck you could go in but it was already closing time so we actually came back early the next day evening to finally climb the famous steep scary stairs of Angkor.
Angkor is majestic no matter what time of the day. Each different hour promises something different. In the morning watching the sun rise over the towers and capturing the reflection in the pond is an amazing opportunity. Stepping into the temples you are amazed once again with its size and how beautifully carved the temple is. Apsaras dot the walls of the temple.

Expression is what takes music beyong the actual notes on the page. Composers added these musical expressions to tell readers what they intended the feeling of the piece was when it was written. It is still up to the player how to interpret this in a personal way.
Maestoso is one of numerous Italian terms that came into use during the renaissance period. Italian because so many of the important composers of the era were Italian. Today, much of the popular music published in North America uses English translations of these terms, but in classical music circles, the Italian expressions are generally still prevalent.
It takes about a minute to get to it, but here is a link to a rendition of this well know portion of the Pomp & Circumstances Marches by Edward Elgar with words by Arthur Benson, sung by Vera Lynn:
