Andrews, assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 5, explains the use of different equipment to members of the Royal Malaysian Navy during demolition materials, procedures and unexploded ordnance training. The event is part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2012 Malaysia. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Students spent the week of June 22-27, learning the science behind explosives and seeing how engineers use detonations to unearth precious minerals & shape the landscape.
We got to take a close-up and personal view of mining and explosives engineering guided by trained explosives experts. Hope you had a blast at camp! We sure did. Hope to see you next year!

The National Explosive works at Upton Towans between Gwithian and Hayle was set up, in 1888, to manufacture explosives, (dynamite, gelignite and cordite), originally for the local mining industry and later for Naval use during WW1. It closed down for manufacturing in 1919 but was used until the 1960s for the storage of explosives.
A metro police officer takes part in a training exercise at the Metro Academy, Johannesburg South Africa, 16 March 2010. The dogs are trained to assist the police officers to sniff out explosives and drugs. South Africa will be hosting the FIFA World Cup this year and with less than 100 days to go, one of the main areas that of a concern to many is security. The K-9 unit is ensuring that the dogs and the officers are ready for the task ahead.
