The Trevor Carpenter Photo Challenge, 2021 Week 27 Wine Glass: My initial thought was to shoot the wine glass on our dock with the sunset sky giving color to the contents of the glass. When I saw how many neighborhoods in our area were shooting very high, sophisticated fireworks, I changed my mind about using the sunset as the backdrop and focused on catching fireworks around or "in" the glass. Although I had several photos that I liked, in which the fireworks were simply blurred flares of color, I then did a composite of a photo in which the fireworks burst was sharp and one in which the wine glass was sharp. I liked that fairly well, also, but in the end because I'm a little weird and I like the unique, I decided to use this image, which has a number of filters, brush work, etc. The glass is filled with water, as I didn't have any wine on hand.

Both the wine glass and the fireworks were shot at f/5.6, 1/25, ISO 2000, just after the sun went below the horizon.

This 1961 splittie Kombi has exploded into life with its rejuvenation.

This 1961 "splittie" Kombi spend the best part of 20 years of its life sitting idly under a gum tree in a paddock in Central West New South Wales.

It spent its days watching sheep grazing in the paddocks and it saw the ploughman turn the soil an sow seed.

Then there was the long extended droughts followed by the rains but hte old Kombi remained.

That was until recently when the old "splittie" was given a new lease on life and underwent some minor repairs and some mechanical work and before long the old Kombi was road worthy once again.

It made its debut appreance at the Grenfell Henry Lawson festival in 2016.

This view of the damaged Apollo 13 Service Module (SM) was photographed from the Lunar Module/Command Module following SM jettisoning. As seen here, an entire SM panel was blown away by the apparent explosion of oxygen tank number two located in Sector 4 of the SM. Two of the three fuel cells are visible just forward (above) the heavily damaged area. Three fuel cells, two oxygen tanks, and two hydrogen tanks are located in Sector 4. The damaged area is located above the S-Band high gain antenna. Nearest the camera is the Service Propulsion System (SPS) engine and nozzle. The damage to the SM caused the Apollo 13 crewmen to use the Lunar Module (LM) as a "lifeboat." The Lunar Module "Aquarius" was jettisoned just prior to Earth reentry by the Command Module "Odyssey."

A series I'm starting that focuses on capturing growth. This is a scene from the night of. I realized that I see the world differently when my emotions run high, or in this case, extremely low. I just need an outlet.

On the bayou for some reason, ducks are the most easily spooked of almost all the birds out there. So it was a nice challenge to anticipate the action from a spring of teal that kept landing and launching in my general vicinity as they forgot and remembered my presence. On the junction of Port Sunlight Village and New Ferry, on the 25th March 2017, a massive gas explosion destroyed and damaged a lot of buildings, causing many injuries. It was caused by a shop owner attempting to destroy his business so he could collect insurance money. Buildings opposite where destroyed with houses further afield damaged.

I already rolled the Fourth of July celebration to this year to see what can be done with the fireworks displays turned into action on the medium telephoto-zoom. I thought that I was in a good spot to start shooting but immediately had to start backing up. I did run into some problems with procedures shooting fireworks at night with the telephoto. The most prominent of which was tracking the action when triggering the exposure: the display and eyepiece go blank and alternate tracking strategy is needed. I think that I have come up with an apparatus that could overcome that problem, I had trouble with accurately tracking the action while using the monopod so I had to ditch the monopod; it was too hard tracking the fireworks shots being constrained by the monopod. Jettisoned. I have conferred with several psychiatrist about the many people with explosive personality defects even though psychiatrists have little to do with the study of science. There is a marked difference between psychiatrist's study of explosive personalities and the study of psychotics like the Koch Brothers and the righties.

I added a bunch more "action" shots to my stash, all of the fiery kind. Although I still have a pile to clean up, I dumped even more into storage this year. This one was taken at an opportune time that revealed there were multiple eruptions during the 2 1/2 second exposure. Fortunate. Apparently there was good motion and the usual shakes as the fireworks erupted. I remained impressed with how these can appear stable at all at these slow exposures. The colors: I thought of how to react to the mass of colors.

It has been years since Phil and I enjoyed the Frogmont fireworks when we got a spot on the hill. This time and recently, I parked over at Golden Ponds and walked along the river to Roger's Grove to be the closer to the launch site. Longmont bagged fireworks in the forest fire year. I got stuck some distance across Hover for an earlier year. I was determined to get close after that year. After already switching to hand holding long exposures for the carney and Christmas lights, I had great luck so I worked on that recently. This year I started out earlier, just after 6:00 in the evening so I could manage a parking spot at the park. By the time I got to Roger's Grove, it was probably a little after 6:30 and faced nearly a 3 hour wait for the fireworks to start. The Roger's Grove parking had probably been filled well before. I ran into a fellow who related that they rented the Roger's Grove pavilion for the entire day. I guess that means a lot of picnicking and a lot of kids. Pavilions even over to Golden Ponds were peopled so long as could see the works over the trees.

These are like a box of chonklits; you never knows what you gits. After slipping this into Photoshop, I adjusted the exact perspective slightly for better presentation but the EXIF reported 82mm so it was mid-zoom when I got the exposure started. Of course digital experimentation is cheap. I had fun shooting and they are a breeze to edit! I get mostly muted colors in the ag settings I shoot, so I revel in JUST COLORS. I spent hours giving this stuff titles.

Darkday really liked this old box and it brought back to her old memories of times from long ago, when she did urbex, when urbex was not even a word.

Also later on Darkday had to be restrained from taking this box as an urbex souvenir.....lol....

We saw up to 100 common dolphins this day in groups of various sizes. They were really showing off, much more so than I've seen before.

The B-52D was outfitted with “Big Belly” modifications which allowed it to carry enormous amounts of conventional explosives for carpet bombing. My model is shown with 24 - 500 pound bombs mounted on pylons under the wing.

I decided to build the bombs in old dark grey because it was the closest color I could find to olive drab.
