Alberto Magnelli (1888-1971) - Explosion Lyrique no. 7 (1918). In the Collezioni Civiche Fiorentine. Shown at a temporary exhibition "Alberto Magnelli: Armocromie" at Museo del Novecento, Florence November 2022-February 2023.
Eva Francioli, the curator of the exhibition, comments: "At the end of the 1910s, Alberto Magnelli's imagination was captured in particular by the sense of mystery surrounding African sculpture and the rigour of the chromatic deconstruction of Orphic Cubism. Continuing his experimentation with colour, he created increasingly vibrant and dynamic compositions. (...) In keeping with its title, the painting is an explosion of joy, often linked by critics to the euphoria unleashed by the end of the Great War. (...) The heart of the vomposition is two stylised female figures, which seem to give off a provocatively sensual bursting emotional charge thet captures and engages the viewer with its vivacity."
Mock explosions on the edge of the airfield at Manston for the Apache Helicopter display adding to the realism. Like the debris flying upwards in the heat.

I'm still experimenting with this camera. I really haven't found my groove with the thing. The explosions are too fast to really show me things that I find interesting. Which I kind of suspected might be the case.
When I try and go much faster than this rate the loss of resolution is more than I like. Individual frames from the above movies are more interesting than the movie as a whole.
I will have to keep experimenting to see what the best subject are at this sorts of frame rates or slower.

In 1804 Newburyport was ranked as one of the wealthiest cities in the United States, mostly due to the thriving shipping trade. In this year the townspeople authorized the building of a new courthouse, and hired noted American architect Charles Bulfinch to design the structure and supervise it's construction. It was completed and opened to the public in 1805.
Located on the "Bartlett Mall", (which was modeled after London's Pall Mall) and adjacent to the 'Frog Pond' - an ancient glacial kettle hole, the brick building has been remodeled several times, eliminating a second peak on the roof, deleting the "Lady of Justice" statue on the roof, and reconstructing the first floor to create interior space where graceful columns and arches had enclosed a small front arcade. More recently, the entire building was coated with mastic cement to resemble stone, but this was later removed to expose the original brickwork.
John Quincy Adams and Daniel Webster tried cases here; In one of Webster's cases he actually convinced the jury that the victim of a robbery had fabricated the incident to frame the alleged perpetrators. Owing to this chapter it the town's history, the location of the supposed robbery is still known as "Sham Hill".
A political group, the "Fred Hampton Unit of the People's Forces" managed to set off a bomb in the front lobby of this building in 1976. In reading the details of the subsequent trial, it appears this building was chosen as a target merely because their other choices were too secure. The explosion blew away a corner of the building, and blew out every window. The damage was soon repaired, and although old bricks were used in the repair, the difference in still visible.

this is one of those pictures where you first review it and for some sad unknown reason didn't appeal to you... but then you go back and you look at it. You determine, 'You know what? With a little cropping and framing, this might work." Which it did. This is much better than the original composition. How I love my PSE! =)
An NEC NC2500S after a lamp explosion. It was running an Ushio 6KW lamp. And it took out the entire reflector. I show this picture to anyone who says they don't need to wear eye protection when changing a lamp.

Shortly after 11.15am today, Tuesday 26 June 2012, police were called to Shaw following a report that homes had been seriously damaged in a large explosion.
Police, fire and ambulance services are at the scene and a cordon remains in place.
Police can confirm a young child has died and a man has been taken to hospital suffering from significant burns.
Efforts are ongoing to establish whether any other people are trapped.
Superintendent Neil Evans said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family of the child who has tragically died.
"We understand this tragedy has caused a lot of upset and shock in the close-knit community of Shaw. We are in the very early stages of an investigation but our priority at the moment is to try and reach anyone who may be caught up in the explosion.
"Three properties have been involved in a major explosion, and a large-scale response involving the emergency services and other agencies is in place.
"The child's family has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained police officers.
"Another man has been taken to hospital, where he is being treated for what are understood to be 80% burns.
"We are working with Oldham Council to make arrangements for those who may need to remain evacuated.
"This is an ongoing search and rescue operation, and more information will be released when it is available."

Grænavatn is an explosion crater--probably over 6000 years old--created by a volcanic eruption. It is some 150 feet deep, with dazzling green water due to thermal algae and crystals which absorb the sun. Unfortunately the green wasn't visible due to the lack of sun when I visited.
