This is a double duty picture. I will enter it into Feathery Friday's bragging thread contest and I have been tagged a couple times recently. So here are 10 facts:

1- I am 50 and have no problem telling people my age!

2- I am married to a great guy for 27 yrs now; we have 2 adult sons, 21 and 20.

3- My little boy is Casper, a Bichon. He has been at my sister’s house 2 hours away for almost a week. I cant wait to see him tomorrow. I am having Casper withdrawals!

4-I am a registered nurse.

5-I lived in New Orleans for 12 yrs as a kid. We had 2 1/2 feet of water in our house from Hurricane Betsy-you don’t forget something like that!

6-I have been in 13 different countries in my life so far; since 13 is an unlucky number I need to go somewhere new! :-)

7-I have never seen the Grand Canyon..... there is so much here yet to see.

8-Unlike Sue (SavingMemories, one of the people who tagged me) I LOVE

chick-flicks!! I do not like real scary movies-they scare me too much!

9- I can’t spell, and have terrible grammar. I don’t like that about myself....as I said in #1, I am 50. At least there is google dictionary I can go to for help.

10-I love to laugh.

As we strolled here we had no idea that behind the facades lay the Storkyrkobadet-a historic basement bath-house with pool and sauna-we should have brought our bathing costumes !

Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests ecoregion, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988. The reserve's name translates as Kingdom of the Lion.

The reserve is only 21 km (13 mi) from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km (4.3 mi) from north to south, but it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants and the 15 or so leopards are rarely seen. The most common larger mammal is the endemic Purple-faced Langur.

An interesting phenomenon is that birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless Greater Racket-tailed Drongo and the noisy Orange-billed Babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive Red-faced Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie.

Reptiles include the endemic Green pit viper and Hump-nosed vipers, and there are a large variety of amphibians, especially tree frogs. Invertebrates include the endemic Common Birdwing butterfly and the inevitable leeches.

Sinharaja national park was another delight of our Sri Lanka adventure - a dense tropical rainforest which we explored on foot. So many things to see there!

A few weeks ago, I was told that I have done a lot of tourism, with a negative connotation, and I thought about that. What I actually do is that I am exploring places in my own way, and that appears to be quite unique because I usually do not encounter other people when I go where I go. I am exploring these places with different means, through hiking, kayaking, photography or flying my kites. I am attempting to minimize my footprint, not only leaving nothing behind but also merging in, becoming part of a place. I am coming back again and again, until I understand a place, its essence and its spirit, and then I keep coming back to observe how it evolves over time, with the weather, the seasons, the years. It is a creative and inspiring process. If that is called tourism, I will accept that term.
