This was the highest ranking Explore I have ever received, and I have been completely overrun with views, faves and comments. They are all very much appreciated but I am just unable to respond to all of them!
It was an overcast and rainy day that had me dodging rain most of the day. The greens were so vivid and lush that I actually pulled the saturation down as they looked fake!
Letchworth State Park, Castile, New York. Renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. Trails are also available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks, tours, a summer lecture series, whitewater rafting, kayaking, a pool for swimming and hot air ballooning.

K-36 class locomotives DRGW 488 and 489 work together out of Chama, NM to bring a freight train up towards the summit of Cumbres Pass. A timeless image that was taken just yesterday. It was a crazy experience to hear these engines work hard up grade. Here the train is rounding many of the curves found along the line in the Sangre De Cristo Mountain Range. The hill blocks the view of 489, but the giant smoke plume rising into the air gives a good illustration of how hard that engine is pushing.
the cats and i are not thrilled with the dark & tumultuous storm passing overhead this morning, so here they are from last week, in much better weather!
Thank you for your views and faves. Critiques and comments are welcome and appreciated.

Such a visual treat. It was a very windy day and getting a bead on these Maple seeds was both a challenge and lots of fun while being within the branches and they were whipping around. First time I've seen these lovely-colored Maple seeds and leaves. Don't know which variety of Maple this is, so if anyone knows, would appreciate identifying it.

The topic today is Scale, had alot of fun with this challenge. Would you like a glass of bokeh? The bokeh was a happy surprise.

Next will be the last image in the set... pls watch for it :)
The Canada Geese are back home. Tired from al ong flight they splash land for a rest, extending their feet forward for a short ‘water ski’ ran before sinking their weight down. After an hour or twp break they will continue north to the nesting grounds.
Here are some amazing facts about those ‘world travelers’
How do Canada Geese communicate?
While many people only hear the trademark “honk” when geese make noise, there is evidence that Canada geese can communicate with different sounds. Scientists believe that there are as many as 13 different Canada goose calls for things like greetings, warnings and contentment.
Canada geese may be one of the most talkative animals after humans. Goslings, or baby geese, begin communicating with their parents while still in the egg! Once hatched, there is also evidence that they respond differently to different calls and noises from their parents, indicating a sophisticated level of communication.
FACT -- As each goose flaps its wings it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.
LESSON -- People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
