In a series of experiments, we began to explore the world of oncofertility research that is taking place at Northwestern University, where they are working to develop a system that will allow women who are diagnosed with cancer to potentially preserve their fertility by performing experiments to help follicles (containing mature egg cells) to develop in vitro. In this program, we experimented with the very same substances they use in the lab and got a sneak peek into what a research physician does.
Researcher setting up equipment outside a model of the UK parliamentandamp;apos;s House of Commons. The experiment will study the ventilation inside this room, the main debating chamber. Thermometers and other sensors are hanging inside the room. Photographed in 1923, in the Engineering Building at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, UK.
Results of an experiment in studio with newly acquired fishtank. I did these by dropping indian ink into clear water & shooting it as it slowly settled.
Raw egg in a jar of vinegar. The shell is obviously going to get broken down by the vinegar, so it could get messy!
I've noticed that when I edit curves in GIMP, I try to add contrast where the histogram is thick. So this morning I implemented a "flattening the histogram" approach, where do that by brute-forcing the image to have a more-or-less flat histogram.
The image marked Linear Luminance did this to the luminance,
the one marked Linear RGB applied the concept to each channel independently.
This isn't intended to be the last processing step, but sometimes it makes a good first one.
I implemented in C++. Stupid beastly language, but it has the bindings to the only image loading library I can deal effectively with.
An experiment to see how well the cleaners clean the office. Results: not well...
The cliche about cleaners not cleaning is alive and well here (as it has been in the last three offices I've worked at...)
My two and a half year old daughter had been asking a lot about how things dry (her wet clothes/hair/spills, etc). She then started wondering what kind of things do dry. So we poured some liquids out and left them for a week. She's now asking daily for more "periments".

A vacuum tube behind a phosphor screen makes it glow green from the X-rays it's emitting - it's being powered by several thousand volts in this photo.
A picture of the vacuum tube shows its orientation under the large phosphor screen.
The emitted X-rays are not at all evenly emitted - tricky to get good photos from this.

Experimenting with alginate to create parts for my project on the theme of "experiences".
Experimenting with the bromoil process in my fine art photography class. Progress so far is looking somewhat good but definitely a long way to go. Any tips or bromoilists out there?
