Troy Shapiro's physics class took learning outside the classroom last week and used Newton's second law to determine the mass of a car.

The law states that net force on an object is equal to the object's mass times the resulting acceleration (F=ma).

By measuring the force applied to the car (using bathroom scales), and the resulting acceleration (using stopwatches and a measuring tape) they were able to calculate the mass of the car.
