New small supermarket in south King Street featuring organic food. I should not mock their sign since their first language may not be English, but what's that about the 1-2-3-4-5 CCTV cameras hanging from the ceiling?
concentrating on her chew, expecting me to make a grab for it so we can play chase.
so, on the last day of the week, I am submitting this as my "week 40" photo for the 52 Weeks for Dogs group. I took a lot of shots this week, but this one is my favorite for some reason. maybe it's the lighting (or shading), maybe the pose, maybe the kind of defocused-focus of the image, maybe it's her concentration, and the expectancy of her staring at her chew after dropping it at my feet wanting to play. or, maybe it's all of that, and the fact that her persistence paid off by me putting down the camera and playing with her. what I know is I like it, and all along I've tried to post the one that I liked the best.
We expect to get the "tail-end" of Storm Ophelia tonight and tomorrow so fingers are crossed it will not be as bad as forecasted!! I took a walk down to the beach this afternoon as we had been getting some amazing colours in the sky and I must say it does look a little like the calm before the storm!!

I was asked to shoot [my first] maternity photos. She knew ahead of time what poses she wanted. This was one of my favorites.
16 November 2018, San José de León, Mutatá, Antioquia, Colombia: Manuel and his friends have spent three days mounting a new wooden house construction in the community of San José de León. The wooden parts of the house are expected to be finalized within a period of two weeks. Following the 2016 peace treaty between FARC and the Colombian government, a group of ex-combatant families have purchased and now cultivate 36 hectares of land in the territory of San José de León, municipality of Mutatá in Antioquia, Colombia. A group of 27 families first purchased the lot of land in San José de León, moving in from nearby Córdoba to settle alongside the 50-or-so families of farmers already living in the area. Today, 50 ex-combatant families live in the emerging community, which hosts a small restaurant, various committees for community organization and development, and which cultivates the land through agriculture, poultry and fish farming. Though the community has come a long way, many challenges remain on the way towards peace and reconciliation. The two-year-old community, which does not yet have a name of its own, is located in the territory of San José de León in Urabá, northwest Colombia, a strategically important corridor for trade into Central America, with resulting drug trafficking and arms trade still keeping armed groups active in the area. Many ex-combatants face trauma and insecurity, and a lack of fulfilment by the Colombian government in transition of land ownership to FARC members makes the situation delicate. Through the project De la Guerra a la Paz (‘From War to Peace’), the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Colombia accompanies three communities in the Antioquia region, offering support both to ex-combatants and to the communities they now live alongside, as they reintegrate into society. Supporting a total of more than 300 families, the project seeks to alleviate the risk of re-victimization, or relapse into violent conflict.
Emebet Mucha is expecting to have her baby soon, her third after her 14 and eight-year-olds. She was told to stay at the maternity waiting room in Berakat health centre during her last check-up. “I really want the baby to come soon but it is nice to rest and wait for it here.” Emebet adds she has many household responsibilities at home, some very tiring ones, that she cannot avoid if she is at home. ©UNICEF Ethiopia/2017/Mulugeta Ayene
I recently became aware of beech leaf disease, which, barring a miracle, is expected to kill all the beech trees in North America. "Large numbers of foliar nematodes are the culprit behind the disease, which interferes with chlorophyll production and starves beech trees to death." It was first discovered in Ohio in 2012 and has been spreading rapidly. This year I saw infected stands in Chatfield Hollow and other local forests. I decided to check the beech tree in our back yard. Sadly, it too appears to be infected.
