An excellent show, as expected. Diru becomes less showy and more art with each iteration.

This show was strange because the whole crowd skewed towards an even younger crowd than expected - the majority weren't able to wear wrist bands (the bartender's worst fears.) The Houston kids had a strange mashup style, with a straight-forward focus on enjoying the show. I'm ok with that.

Birthday Massacre (who I didn't think to take pictures of) are even better when seen live. They just seemed to have so much fun despite their srs bisness keel.

Well worth the eight hour drive for this show. I'd do it again!

Coming out is hard. It can be difficult to explain how you feel and who you are, especially if you're still trying to "crossdress" figure all of that out yourself. There's a whirlwind, rollercoaster of a journey laid out before you.

But it's okay. No, really, it is. It's the

Soâ¦I finally get to go to Meat & Shake, and I am quite glad that I did. There is quite a lot more to them than I expect there to be, and they certainly deliver on the promise of MEAT and SHAKE (one after another - shake first, obviouslyâ¦). In a nutshell, it's a casual, American style diner/smokehouse ('smokehouse' is mos def a thing now). The first opened back in August 2013, in Tooting - I had already heard tales of its popularity and some good things from people who've visited (i.e near continual lines stretching outside the restaurant, and something they serve called 'dirty fries', usually referred to in hushed tones, etc etc). True, said lines could partly be down to the fact that Meat & Shake don't take reservations - but as you shall soon see, there's more to it than that...

Onto the food then. Meat & Shake's website proclaims - âThe burger is omnipotent and irresistible, it can never be weakened.â This is probably true. I like that they don't take themselves too seriously. However, like any good burger place, they DO take their meat very seriously. Their burgers are minced daily from 35-day aged beef - and is also sourced from Selfridges butcher, Mackens Brothers of Chiswick (who I am pretty also look after a few of the Marriott's steakhouses). Speaking of Marriott steakhouses, I'm going to blame the delicious/filling shake (and the fact that it was Tuesday) for why I skip on the opportunity to consume a 1.5kg tomahawk steak. YEAH they actually do fucking tomahawk steaks!? Dayummmmm. Also I'm not sure Lizzie is ready to witness such a thing.

One thing that might not be immediately obvious about Meat and Shake that they're also much known and much loved amongst the Muslim community (having made a show at the Halal food festival etc). Which means that everything on the menu is ABSOLUTELY HALAL (good memes never die, only the actors that play them...). So, no pork or alcohol is served on the premises - though there's quite a selection of virgin cocktails and I believe they use turkey for the bacon. All in all? Prices are reasonable, steaks are legit, staff are chill, and taxidermy animals with weapons are an added plus. The place isn't yet as busy as it's sister in Tooting Bec but I reckon once it's been here a little longer, Ealing's meaty masses will meet here, en masse (DO you SEE what I DID there?!).

Now for us to try the one that opens in Watford's Harlequin Centre in the very near future - and maybe get a delicious tomahawk...

Trump & Erdogan are in Belgium for a NATO meeting.. and over 12000 Belgians took to the streets to protest their presidencies.

It’s objectively too late to restrain population and consumption growth so as to avert what ecologists of the 1970s called a “hard landing.”

It is the lie that human society can continue growing its population and consumption levels indefinitely on our finite planet, and never suffer consequences.

Perhaps Donald Trump succeeded because his promises spoke to what civilizations in decline tend to want to hear. It could be argued that the pluralistic, secular, cosmopolitan, tolerant, constitutional democratic nation state is a political arrangement appropriate for a growing economy buoyed by pervasive optimism. (On a scale much smaller than contemporary America, ancient Greece and Rome during their early expansionary periods provided examples of this kind of political-social arrangement). As societies contract, people turn fearful, angry, and pessimistic—and fear, anger, and pessimism fairly dripped from Trump’s inaugural address. In periods of decline, strongmen tend to arise promising to restore past glories and to defeat domestic and foreign enemies. Repressive kleptocracies are the rule rather than the exception.

Little did I expect to find the old platforms still in existence behind Curzon Street Station. This area will be redeveloped as Curzon Park, so who knows what will happen to the platforms. You can kind of see where the tracks were once laid.

I expect that many MM contributions this week may be old photos. Whilst this is stretching the term macro (and Black and White) just a little, each of these photos mean a lot to me and help me keep the memory of a lost friend fresh.

The gentleman in the picture is my dad, who sadly died of cancer many years ago whilst I was still quite young. He was ex-Britsish army (21 years served) and a real character. My mum, sick of him wearing this coat for 15+ years cut it up and put it in the bin. At some expense, he tooks the pieces to a tailor and got it all sewn back together. He wore it for several years after.

The dog, my first dog as a child, is called Bandit. She was lovely, not bright, but just a great friend for a young boy. The cat, I had much later in life. Polly was her name - a passionate bird catcher - she finally chased one right under a car.

These photos help me remember them in their own special way.

(P.s. The dice and frog are presents from a friend and my girlfirend.)

Not knowing any intel, until we got up to the New Town line, this afternoon could have turned out way worse. When we arrived New Town, ND, a set of three CP heritage four axle motors was idling in town with a crew. My fear was that they had just arrived town, had put their train away, and were done for the day, sealing the fate on our chances of catching anything out on this former Soo subdivision.

Luckily they were actually about to tie onto a cut of crude oil tanks, and take them east towards Max, ND. An eastbound in the afternoon is not the best prospect, but it was better than nothing. We stumbled upon a spot where the tracks are forced to make a north/south turn along the Van Hook Arm of Lake Sakakawea. The one spot on the entire line where it would be possible to get some wonderful side light at this time of day.

As with most of the upper Midwest, there is some remarkable flooding going on here.

MK Metro FJ09DXK - People have written on their good luck messages for the England World Cup team.

Convincing Towns Cup win against City of Derry

by Roger Corbett

Last year’s Towns Cup winners were comprehensively beaten 48-10 in the first round of this year’s competition by a well drilled and cohesive Bangor side.

With conditions very soft underfoot at Upritchard Park, the decision was made to play at the Bangor Grammar School’s new pitch nearby. It was hoped that the firmer ground and better than expected weather would give both sides a good opportunity to play to their respective strengths. As City of Derry 2nds were the current holders of the Towns Cup, and having brought a strong team to defend that position, Bangor were expecting a tough contest.

The visitors kicked off with a slight wind advantage, and pushed forward into Bangor’s twenty two. However, after 7 minutes of play, Bangor produced a fine break through crisp handling and good support that involved several players, before the ball came to Darren Kelly. With 10 metres to go, he powered through the Derry defence to score to the left of the posts. Neil Cuthbertson’s conversion was successful, getting the home side off to a great 7-0 start.

Shortly afterwards, another good combination between forwards and backs saw the ball come to Jason Morgan who seemed sure to score, but the ball somehow slipped from his grasp within sight of the Derry line. From the resulting scrum, Derry won the ball and cleared their lines by kicking for touch. The Bangor lineout was taken cleanly by Kelly, and Bangor picked off where they had left off moments earlier. This time it was Jamie Clegg who made the break before passing outside to Mark Widdowson on the left wing. Although he had to juggle the ball before controlling it, he still managed to squeeze in at the corner for Bangor’s second try. The touchline kick was missed making the score now 12-0 with 14 minutes gone.

City of Derry settled themselves and within 10 minutes were applying sustained pressure in Bangor’s twenty two. Having drawn in Bangor players to a ruck, they quickly passed the ball across their backs to find just enough room to score in the left hand corner. The kick was missed, but the gap had now closed to 12-5.

From Mark Thompson’s restart kick, the ball was knocked on by the City of Derry receiver. The Bangor scrum on the half way line was secured by Clegg before passing to Mike Aspley who accelerated through a gap in the centre, shook off a number of tackles and looked to be through for a score. However, with the City of Derry full back in front of him, Aspley unselfishly passed inside to Morgan who made the last few metres to score under the posts. Cuthberton’s simple kick made the score 19-5.

Most of the attacking play was now coming from the home side, prompting some desperate defending by the visitors. With 35 minutes gone, Derry were penalised for a deliberate knock on within their twenty two. The penalty was kicked to touch, and the subsequent lineout was again taken cleanly, this time by Adam Rushe. In a reversal of the previous try, Morgan took the ball forward before returning the compliment to Aspley to score close to the posts. The conversion brought the score to 26-5.

With the first half drawing to a close, Bangor kept up their pressure, forcing Derry to concede another penalty. From Bangor’s chosen scrum, the ball came to Morgan who, although wrapped up in defenders, managed to off-load to James Henly who made good ground before passing outside to Cuthbertson on the right wing who scored in the corner. His subsequent kick hit the upright and bounced out, but Bangor’s lead as the referee blew for half time was now 31-5.

City of Derry’s half time talk appeared to be paying dividends, as they started the second half with renewed vigour and eventually turned over a Bangor scrum. Having won the ball, they moved it wide to their right wing to score in the corner. Although the kick was missed, they were now in double figures at 31-10, with just a few minutes of the half gone.

Unfortunately, the Derry men were unable to build further from this promising start. On the 15 minute mark, Widdowson took a pass above his head, before side stepping the last defender to dive over in the left hand corner for his second try. A great kick by Cuthbertson made the score 38-10.

Several minutes later, Aspley had another good run, but this time was stopped short of the line. Undeterred, from the Bangor ruck, Andrew Jackson got the ball and, having pushed forward and brought play back into the centre, passed outside to Kelly who powered over from a couple of metres out to score his second try. The kick was missed, making the score 43-10.

With the contest all but over, and waiting for the final whistle, another Bangor attack saw Clegg push through before passing to Widdowson on his left. With defenders in front of him, and with little room to work with, Widdowson chipped over the defence and set off in pursuit. The ball didn’t bounce kindly for him, but did for the supporting Phil Whyte who gathered it well and dived over for a well-deserved try. For the second time in the game, Cuthbertson’s conversion hit the upright, making the final score 48-10.

This was another excellent Bangor performance that has brought a return to the kind of form shown at the start of the season. The timing couldn’t be better as the next game is away to league leaders Clogher Valley, who themselves are enjoying a great run of results.

I hadn't expected to see one of these just yet though the temperature last night was the lowest since last winter and the grass was frozen white this morning. We found this tucked into an eggbox inside the trap along with three Yellow-line Quakers and after some searching around prised three more Yellow-line Quakers out of the grass. They all went into little cardboard pots and into the fridge, which for once was warmer for them than being left outdoors.

I took the bottom photo around 9am, more than an hour after we'd collected up the moths- you can see from our footprints that the grass was still frozen. We were lucky to find any moths at all let alone a new species for the garden!
