As expected, Southeastern have branded their fleet of 395s as Javelins, just for the duration of the Olympics. This is the first time I have seen one so marked.
As expected I woke up at 2am (UK time 6am), with several attempts to get back to sleep with some light dozing.
I eventually gave up and went for breakfast.
Easy to eat the wrong stuff. Trying my best here. I also had some toast and coffee to keep me alert for the busy day ahead.
A rare sight in my neck of the woods.
Don´t wanna know what their errand might be, as long they don´t show up on my driveway.
Fact: this Volvo seats 8 people, excluding the driver.
Believe it or not.
It weighs approximately a ton more than the regular V70.
It's a baby girl!

This is an image of the pregnant uterus of a female cat at 25-28 days gestation (4 weeks gestation). The uterine swellings have continued to grow and they are now about 40-50mm long. The swellings are still spaced out along the length of the female cat's uterine horns, but as you can see, those that are positioned closer together are now starting to touch. These uterine swellings are often able to be palpated by a veterinarian in order to diagnose the pregnancy and, if they are not able to be clearly palpated, they are usually very easy to spot using ultrasound.
UN Lends Support as Iraqi Women Show United Front in Politics to Push for a Stronger Role
Baghdad, 6 August 2018 – In a meeting facilitated by the United Nations, Iraqi women expected to sit in the next Council of Representatives discussed working collaboratively across the political spectrum, including the possible establishment of a women’s parliamentary caucus, to promote gender equality and the adoption of laws advancing women’s rights and to strengthen their role in governance.
The seventeen women, who ran in the 12 May general elections on different party lists and are expected to win parliamentary seats, and who include former members of parliament and provincial councils, agreed that some women MPs in the incoming parliament deserve senior roles in the new government, including the Council of Ministers. They expressed their determination to be part of parliamentary committees across the spectrum of issues, not just those traditionally associated with women, and they voiced their keenness to build their skills and knowledge on all aspects of parliamentary work.
The women pressed the UN to advocate for women’s representation in the government formation as a priority - a position that the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has strongly supported on every occasion. The meeting was also attended by representatives of UNDP, UNFPA, UNMAS, UNOPS and UNWOMEN.
The Iraqi women politicians undertook to work across the party divide, for example in establishing a women’s parliamentary caucus and women’s platforms, in the development of government policies and strategies. And they committed to collaborate with civil society and male champions on increasing women’s participation and representation in politics, as well as gender mainstreaming in all parliamentary processes.
Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq Alice Walpole assured participants of the UN Family’s readiness to continue encouraging political leaders and heads of blocs to include women in committees negotiating government formation, as well as the inclusion of women’s demands in the government programme and their representation in the Council of Ministers, Judiciary, state institutions and other high-level public positions.
“In the context of our commitment to support all elected MPs,” Ms. Walpole said, “we would be happy to provide technical support and advice on the establishment of a women’s parliamentary caucus. This caucus would ensure the sort of unity of effort that can help advance progress on the adoption of laws impacting positively on women, girls and children’s rights.”
Ms. Walpole added: “There is real value in including a gender perspective in parliamentary legislation, for example, employment laws with specific quotas to advance women’s representation.” Ms. Walpole also highlighted the importance of expanding collaboration with civil society and women’s activists. She noted that “a strong and effective civil society is an integral part of democracy and will help underpin the achievements of all elected MPs in parliament.”

My friend Judy was expecting me in a few minutes, so I didn't stop and take a look. Maybe next time........
But I am not sure how safe it would be to go inside, look at the tilt!
I expected to encounter Wilson's Snipes when I arrived at Burnaby Lake early during October. What I didn't expect was FOG.
I could see the Snipes through the fog and have been able to eliminate the fog using Photoshop, but the resolution of the photos was significantly lessened.
The sun was breaking through for the final photos, but then the Snipes flew off.
... a journey begins. Well, it began a long time ago actually and I am just assembling a few bits and pieces.
is expected to get as correct a statement of
the opinion, as he can, from the minutes
he is enabled to take, of each oral opinion.
But it was probably soon found, that in all
important cases, in which an extended
opinion should be given, such a mode
of reporting would be neither creditable
to the Court or the particular Judges speaking for them in such case, nor
beneficial or satisfactory to the Bar or the
public. To secure a greater degree, of accu-
racy, [ ], & [correctness], the ordering [crossout] must
be, for the reporter to submit his minutes to
the judge who delivered the opinion, for
revision & corrections, or for the judge
himself to draw up the opinion, in the
first instance, from his original minutes, & deliver it to the reporter,
in a fit state for publication. Both
methods have been to some extent adopt-
ed; but as far as my experience & know-
ledge of the subject extends, it has been
found, that the rough draft of the reporter
Have never expected to see such a beautiful blossom in the city of Hong Kong. The flower of Bauhinia blakeana was adopted as the emblem of Hong Kong in 1965 and since 1997 has been part of the flag of the SAR. The tree was originally described as a new species in 1908 after being discovered on the shore of Hong Kong Island near Pokfulam around 1880 and was named after a Hong Kong governor Sir Henry Blake who had a strong interest in botany.

Every now and then a water truck drives by spraying water on the roads to keep down dust-- but there's simply too much dust. Anyway, inhabitants of Black Rock City take the opportunity for a refreshing shower by chasing after the trucks and getting sprayed.
Today I saw 2 things I didn't expect to see on my walk at my usual walking place of Calke Abbey. The first one was this Antonov cargo plane approaching East Midlands airport. I have heard before of these huge planes using EM airport but was still surprised to see this one. I was very surprised on how slow this plane was moving, I had time to change my lens to get this photo. I heard the plane land and it produced a very loud noise which I presume was the engine being put in reverse.
This is the second largest cargo plane in the world.
I would love to get some better photos of it when it takes back off, but I am unable to find this information out on the net.
Dublin Castle is not what many tourists expect and below is an example of a not untypical review:
"Not a castle at all. Basically a government building that they hang artwork in and not good artwork." This reaction is not at all surprising.
If you you intend to visit Dublin Castle you need to be aware that it is a working castle and that it has been modified many times over an extended period and that it was never intended that its main function is to operate as a tourist attraction. If you are unimpressed by the castle then it might be a good idea to visit the Chester Beatty [there is no entry fee].
The Chester Beatty is a museum and library. Formerly known as the Chester Beatty Library, it was established in Ireland in 1950, to house the collections of mining magnate, Sir Alfred Chester Beatty. The present museum, on the grounds of Dublin Castle, opened on 7 February 2000, the 125th anniversary of Beatty's birth and was named European Museum of the Year in 2002.
The museum's collections are displayed in two galleries: "Sacred Traditions" and "Artistic Traditions". Both displays exhibit manuscripts, miniature paintings, prints, drawings, rare books and some decorative arts from the Persian, Islamic, East Asian and Western Collections. The Chester Beatty is one of the premier sources for scholarship in both the Old and New Testaments and is home to one of the most significant collections of Islamic and Far Eastern artefacts.
