1.16.22 - Sculpt progress on Star Wars: Dark Times (Dark Horse Comics) Dass Jennir and Falco Sang along with my first sculpt update on the "OG" bounty hunter, Skorr from the classic Marvel comic strip The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell. All 1:18 scale.
Holidays are over, the decorations are stored, time to get back to work.
Sculpt progress on Dass Jennir. I finished the first set of variant forearms that are connected by the magnets seen in my last update. Strong attachments, as if they were jointed. The second variant will have the forearms wrapped as they appeared when Jennir rode his steed. I also worked on building up the chest sculpt a bit, adding a loosely fitted collar to the shirt. Added some more hair to the head sculpt and began working on a hood/head combo that will work independently from one another rather than being a single, static sculpt.
Also worked on Jenir's steed. The sculpt as seen here in the photos will need a complete rework with the exception of the head and horns. The entire body needs to be thinned out, the neck especially. The neck also needs to be elongated and the center articulation cut removed. I never liked that and it serves no purpose. I think the body is ok...just too thick, muscular. Nothing wrong with some definition but right now the body is looking too much like a Clydesdale.
Falco Sang progress. Started sculpting the upper body and arms of the figure. I'm not sure if the character's "sneaking suit" contained a texture? In the comics, it's a flat black. I took a little artistic license and added a subtle texture to the bodysuit. When painted, I think it will make the figure much more interesting to look at. Also sculpted one of the shoulder guards. Not sure how it will connect to the figure at this point. I'm looking at some clear or black elastic mini bands to go over the shoulder. I want a free range of movement, that's for certain. Finally, I worked a bit more on Falco's unmasked head sculpt. Sanding down the scalp and sculpting ears. I plan on sculpting his hair this week. I also need to begin working on his doid, Ize.
The true "OG" bounty hunter. Before Boba, there was Skorr - the Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell. You've seen the head sculpt before - I sculpted that back in 2011 I think? It needs a little work to bring it up to the standards I have now. Back then I was having issues learning to blend layers of epoxy at this scale. If you zoom in on this sculpt, you will see where layers ended and new layers began. Some simple sanding and resculpting will bring the head to sculpt up to date so expect a better look coming soon. The body is a dremeled down Spartan figure from Boss Fight. Nothing modded yet. I'm sure I will replace the neck joint and add more articulation but this will be the frame of choice. Gathered all the source images I could find so I hope to begin having better updates for you all in the immediate future.
Bonus! I'll be sculpting his sidekick "Gribbet" who is a Rybet bounty hunter and whose species ironically appears in the Dark Horse series! I've included a panel image showing the creature standing near Dass Jennir.
That's it for this week! Hope to have more to show you next week - if anything, just an image or two to show progress. Will be needing to purchase new molding and casting material for replications soon.
Thanks again for your continued interest in my work! I appreciate all the comments and critique you've given me!

As he nears the fortress, he spots an unusual craft parked in the mouldering courtyard.
"Wow, check out that antique skyhopper! My ancestors used to fly something like that thousands of years ago I never thought I'd see a real one up close."
We really like picking on her. If we had a Zekk it would've been much worse since he just would've had to whine about her the whole time.
Wedge: General Solo! What a relief to find you alive and well! As soon as we were able to convince some of those Imperial scientists to help us, I volunteered to search for you.
Han: Please, Wedge, after all we've been through together you can drop the "General" routine, just call me Han! I appreciate you com'in after us. We've been stuck in this frozen hellhole for the better part of a week try'in to get the Falcon spaceworthy again. We were start'in to think we'd never see another friendly face!
Troop section with the roof removed. The two guys in the back have to ride standing up. Sorry! The blaster rifles are mounted on the walls, one per side.
11_15 Sculpt update on Dass Jennir v2.0 (Star Wars: Dark Times)...
Some have confused this figure as a redo of my orginal Dass?...Not so. This is a second version of the character featured in the "Out of the Wilderness" arc.
starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Dark_Times—Out_of_t...
Similar clothing, not as heavy. This figure will be more articulated than the orignal so it can be placed on horseback. That or I will sculpt a modified, static lower half that will sit in the saddle.
You see here just how much sculpt needs to go into the awkward looking skeletal framework. I've started on the boots and the left shoulder. Also adjustments to the head sculpts...the beard will be reduced and the hair sculpted over again. The helmet needs to fit lower on the head than seen.
I kept the image grayscale because I'm looking at the build, not the paint scheme at this point.
Hope to have some detailed sculpt updates to follow soon. Possibly a video? We'll see

12.30.21 Sculpt update - Dass Jennir and Falco Sang - Star Wars: Dark Times (Dark Horse Comics). 1:18 scale.
Hey guys! Finally received magnets needed for my forearm variants to Jennir. The character is featured in the comic with and without arm wraps, so I'll be creating variant sculpts for each. Having those minor variants will allow me to make the figure more versatile in its appearance. They are glued directly to the plastic frame and will be sculpted over. The magnets are strong enough to have a firm hold to one another but not enough to interfere with the opposite arm or waist magnet. The only downside with using magnets in the interaction with other figures using the same methodology. Forces seem to attract or repel one another when in close range LOL! Small price to pay...
Added some sculpt to the chest. More will be added I'm sure. I also want to reduce the lower abdomen again.
Also working on the maskless head sculpt to Falco Sang. Making some changes to an older cast I had that strikes a resemblance to the character. Reworking the upper body sculpt as well.
So goes another week of sculpting. Probably would have had more to share but it took forever to receive the magnets and I'm so afraid to get working on another project that may take my focus off what I'm wanting to achieve here...also with the holidays and COVID making an appearance in the family, a break was necessary.
More to come! Hoping to ramp things up a bit more in the coming weeks. Hard to believe that only a handful of weeks back this was nothing but an unstable, raggedy figure frame. It's fun to watch the transformation. Hope you enjoyed the update!

My version of Jacen Solo from the early novels in the "New Jedi Order" series.
I really liked the Character of Jacen Solo in the Jedi Order series. Especially after Inferno. So I decided to make a figure based on his character.
11.23 Sculpt update on Jedi Dass Jennir - Dark Times "Out of the Wilderness" arc - Dark Horse Comics. 1:18 scale.
So the feeble frame is beginning to grow some meat on its bones. Great to be working on Star Wars related customs again...some old reflexes coming back.
It's been awhile since I've built some frames to sculpt over. So far, so good! To this point I've built up the feet, both upper legs, left shoulder, lower and upper abdomen. All the articulation remains although it was a challenge to guess the cut through the sculpt of the upper thigh but I got close enough.
Adjustments will be made as I go along. Just need my xacto, dremel and sandpaper at my side. The upper leg sculpt may be reduced off the knee joint for better clearance. I've already made adjustments to the lower abdomen/crotch.
Working on the head sculpt as well. The "Out of the Wilderness" arc has Dass sporting a shorter haricut along with more manageable facial hair. I'm also adding better defined ears becasue several years back, I wasn't all that great at sculpting them! LOL! This version of Dass will have a number of differences to that of it's predecessor. You'll see that come to light as the figure develops.
It feels great to be working on Star Wars related figs for awhile! To my Alien fans, you need to give me a bit of a break while I refreash the batteries! No worries, I have a balance developing now. After I work on Dass for awhile, I'll switch up to another Star Wars related character and an Alien figure. Currenly that is the Newborn.
More to come!

Close up of the Concept Art/Expanded Universe Air Speeder Pilot in the cockpit of the Air Speeder from the Power of the Force 2 line. Cool concept.

7.5.22 Sculpt update on Falco Sang - Bouthy Hunter/Assassin from the Dark Horse comic series Star Wars: Dark Times.
Been several weeks since I made any progress on this figure. This update centers on the alternate head sculpt.
After looking over the character studies Doug Wheatley did for the story arc, I made a small change to the bridge of the character's nose by adding a dorsal hump to the bridge. I also added the hair and recently detailed the ears more as the initial sculpts looked too simplified and a little large in proportion.
I'm only going to update with the more recent images taken but you can find more of my progression when I upload all the images over the past several weeks on my FLICKR photostream soon...I'll post a link once updated.
Working on some better articulation to the waist and will sculpt the lower legs and feet soon.
More to come! Thanks again for your continued interest in my work!!! It never gets old to inspire and seek inspiration from other great artists in the custom community.
