Execution Rocks Lighthouse is located in Long Island Sound. Legend has it that the British used to chain prisoners to the rocks at low tide and wait for them to drown as the tide came in. The lighthouse was built in the 1840's and recently handed over to a non-profit for restoration. It is a 30 minute boat ride away from the shore, and has no electricity or running water, plus it is rumored to be haunted.

The Execution of Lady Jane Grey is an oil painting by Paul Delaroche, completed in 1833, which is now in the National Gallery in London. It was enormously popular in the decades after it was painted, but in the 20th century realist historical paintings fell from critical favour and it was kept in storage for many decades, for much of which it was thought lost. Restored and displayed again since 1975, it immediately once again became a highly popular work, especially with younger visitors.[1]

The painting portrays, erroneously in some regards, the moments preceding the death of Lady Jane Grey, who on 10 July 1553 was proclaimed Queen of England, only to be deposed nine days later and executed in 1554. Jane is sometimes referred to as the "Nine Days' Queen" due to the brevity of her reign.

O pictura deosebit de apreciata in secolul 19, Execution of Lady Jane Grey a fost realizata de Paul Delaroche in 1833. In secolul 20, stilul realist cu teme istorice scade in popularitate, pictura ajungand in depozit.

Este expusa din nou in 1975, devenind deosebit de populara mai ales in randul publicului tanar.

Judith and Holofernes, 1620-21

Artemisia Gentileschi

Assyrian king Nebuchadnezzar sent his general Holofernes to besiege the Jewish city of Bethulia. Judith, described as a beautiful young widow, resolves to save her people by slaying Holofernes herself. After reciting a long prayer to God, she dons her finest clothes in order to seduce him. After Holofernes has drank enough wine to become intoxicated, Judith decapitates him with his own sword, winning a decisive victory for the Israelites.

From Artemisia

(October 2020 to January 2021)

"I will show Your Illustrious Lordship what a woman can do"

In 17th-century Europe, at a time when women artists were not easily accepted, Artemisia was exceptional. She challenged conventions and defied expectations to become a successful artist and one of the greatest storytellers of her time.

Artemisia painted subjects that were traditionally the preserve of male artists and for the male gaze; transforming meek maidservants into courageous conspirators and victims into survivors.

In this first major exhibition of Artemisia’s work in the UK, see her best-known paintings including two versions of her iconic and viscerally violent ‘Judith beheading Holofernes’; as well as her self portraits, heroines from history and the Bible, and recently discovered personal letters, seen in the UK for the first time.

Cook murdered his 2nd wife and was hung here in Woodstock, the first execution (of five) in the city's history, and he was so fat he was decapitated by the noose. This bust of his death mask was placed here beside the door from the gaol to what used to be the prison yard, a warning to the prisoners to behave I take it. They'd pass this at least twice a day.

- I had a job in London, ON from Nov '08 to Nov '09 and tried to see more of southwestern Ontario while I was there (with more to see and learn about than I expected). One night in town I spoke with a bartender about his adventures working in taverns in towns around southern Ontario. I'd just been to Woodstock, and he said it's a strange place with the most obstreporous locals. One day 2 guys in their 30s or 40s were sitting at his bar, the door opened and a 3rd guy walked in. He saw them, they saw him, a pin dropped, and then they jumped each other in an all-out melee. The bartender broke it up and kicked the 3rd guy out. He asked the first 2 what that was all about and they said "ahh, we've hated that guy since high school." !! Woodstock's a small town, they must run into each other several times a month.

The art community in Second Life is a varied one. Fine art, outsider art, underground art, performance art and music are all mixed in with the technical aspects of programming and scripting.

Second Life is one of the first places to combine right and left brain thinkers into one fantastic execution of art and builds in a virtual reality.

The sophistication of the artist is apparent at several places on the SL grid. There are many places that rival my favorites, but these are my personal choices based on my reaction or how long it stayed with me.

The Apollo sim will always be my very favorite place, but here are two that just captured my head and heart. La Reve and pteron are included on my "to die for" list and of course, The A List!

Both are fantastic. Both are fabulously done with a flair that most of us who build, will never achieve. I also included a few stand-outs from Esperance, Nebulous's ArtHole installation, and also, the conceptual Muzik Haus.

Muzik Haus is included, not because of the build itself. That part is simple, but the concept itself is one that stays with me. Mr Widget is the dj and his party making mash-ups create a total ambiance that drives the performance itself.

He is my current favorite dj. He is a mash-up king. And he shares his knowledge with us so generously.

All these places and all these people... standing before you and your art, sometimes overwhelms me to a point of tears. The emotional connection I feel when I explore or listen is the reason why I believe that art equals life. For without art... life is a dreary place and that is no life for anyone.
