Some of the 401st AFSB family and friends took time after work to have a party at the newly opened Sabre Café. There was near beer, coffee, soft drinks, wings, snacks, ‘near beer pong’ and plenty of music, dancing and a great way to end the day. Look for another party at Sabre Café next month.

Launch of Dennis Flynn's new picture book on the Newfoundland's Heritage Animal - the Newfoundland Pony. The Long Hall: Tracing the Path of the Endangered Newfoundland Pony by Dennis Flynn is published James Lane Publishing of St. John's, NL. (A division of Downhome Magazine.)
The launch of the book was held last night at the Bay Roberts Visitor Information Centre. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves animals and who has an interested in the heritage of our beautiful province. The dedication of the book: "Dedicated to the people of the pony; to the old-time horsemen and women of this province who depended on the pony in so many ways; to the modern equestrians and enthusiasts who give the pony new purpose and relevance in an evolving world; and finally to all groups and individuals worldwide who continue to bring the pony back from the edge of extinction. Like the Newfoundland Pony, they are in it for the long haul."
The Holdin’ Ground Festival” is named for Ted Russell's play about the bond between Newfoundlanders and their homeland. The festival celebrates everything that contributes to the town of Bay Roberts as a “Holdin’ Ground.”

Debut is a dream night for Future Professionals, faculty, staff and attendees. Future Professionals put together a look for his/her model who walks down the catwalk. This is a hair, makeup, and fashion show all in one!

All I can really say is that this show was bigger and better than I had ever hoped for. Evolve took on a life of its own and so many of the artists shared their own powerful stories of overcoming whatever life has tossed along their path.
Over 20 photographers, ceramicists and artists were part of this event. Gay, straight, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender, Black Latino, White, Armenian, poor, broke, rich, wealthy, HIV positive, HIV negative and even two homeless individuals were all artists in this show. The was a direct representation of what Los Angeles looks like and together we showed why we are the City of Angels
About 400 attended the opening at Art Share-LA in Downtown Los Angeles. The event was a complete success with people coming from as far north as Sacramento as far south as San Diego. New York, Denver and even two folks from Atlanta made the trek to the Evolve opening. I was completely blown away.
Big thanks to all the artists for their beautiful pieces, my family, friends and supporters for continuing to embrace my work through Project KengiKat and Do Something Saturday and to everyone who donated and attended the event I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi
The giraffe is one of only two living species of the family Giraffidae, along with the okapi. The family was once much more extensive, with numerous other species. The giraffids evolved from a 3 metres (9.8 ft) tall antelope-like mammal that roamed Europe and Asia some 30–50 million years ago.
The earliest known giraffid was Climacoceras, which still resembled deer, having large antler-like ossicones. It first appeared in the early Miocene epoch. Later examples include the genera Palaeotragus and Samotherium, which appeared in the early to mid-Miocene. They were both tall at the shoulder, and had developed the simple, unbranched ossicones of modern giraffids, but still had relatively short necks.
From the late Pliocene onwards, the variety of giraffids drastically declined, until only the two surviving species remained. The modern genus Giraffa evolved during the Pliocene epoch, and included a number of other long-necked species, such as Giraffa jumae, that do not survive today. Alan Turner proposes, in the 2004 book Evolving Eden, that giraffe ancestors initially had a dark coat with pale spots, and that the spots gradually became star-shaped, before eventually forming the reticulated pattern found today. The modern species, Giraffa camelopardalis, appeared during the Pleistocene 1 million years ago.
The evolution of the long necks of giraffes has been the subject of much debate. The standard story is that they were evolved to allow the giraffes to browse vegetation that was out of the reach of other herbivores in the vicinity, giving them a competitive advantage. However, an alternative theory proposes that the long necks evolved as a secondary sexual characteristic, giving males an advantage in "necking" contests to establish dominance and obtain access to sexually receptive females. This theory notes that giraffes frequently feed from relatively low-lying shrubs, and that the necks of males are significantly longer than those of females. However, this theory is not universally accepted, and some of the data supporting it has recently been challenged, lending support to the original proposal that neck length is related to browsing habits.

... When I ordered my Puki from FairyLand, I actually had the presence-of-mind to think ahead about what kind of character he'd be. I knew I wanted him to be a little warrior, so I ordered the "Samshir Hands" and ChiChi's skull mask, too. The "kilt" is the same as in previous pictures, by "Aunty Spampy". I made his fetish/necklace from a plastic tooth (bead) I had been saving for just the right project...
