This bud will soon change into a simple flower..... actually there's a certain solace with that. Simplicity can be simply and soulfully wonderful.
EXPLORE on August 18, 2009.
Ingredients:
Meyer-Optik Görlitz Trioplan 100/2.8 @f2.8
10+16mm extension tubes (focus-range nearly 1µm)
Olympus E-M 10 Mark II
Xxxtreme Bokeh
The Bokeh is "made" out of a tree with yellow petals and a forget-me-not bush on the lower right. I had only 2-3 min, then the light changed completly and left a poor main-object with a non-existing Bokeh.
Manual setup, manual focus, available 6 in the morning light, handheld. Hope, you enjoy! All visits, faves and comments are appreciated!

This concludes my brief wetlands birds series. From Conservation International:
"The species found in wetlands are some of the most unique in the world because they’ve evolved specifically to survive in these hydrologically changing ecosystems. Alligators, crocodiles, muskrats, nutrias, fish species and hundreds of birds, including mallards, geese and herons are all found in wetlands. More than half of the 800 species of protected migratory birds in the U.S. rely on wetlands. The vegetation found in wetlands is also unique as they have evolved to survive in seasonally flooded and saline conditions. Some examples include the cattail in freshwater wetlands and mangrove species in coastal wetlands."
One of those protected species that relies on wetlands is the endangered Whooping Crane, shown here near the gulf coast of Texas.

Young goldfish in our well...first they are black so the bigger fish cannot spot them easily, and then gradually shift to normal colors for a goldfish...about 6 months old. The big ones produce young every year but being in a well makes them hard to spot until they start to change color.

What is an orange anyway?
A sweet orange, otherwise the resulting fruit of a likely obsolete hybrid of a mandarin and pomelo, is the standard "orange."
But I know people who think of mandarins as "mini oranges" despite the orange being the human fabrication.
And then you can cross a mandarin with an orange again and get something totally different. 0.5 orange?
What is a lemon? A lemon is created as a hybrid with a bitter orange, so is a lemon an orange? By that logic, all oranges are mandarins.
Considering citrus evolved about 7 million years ago, did ancient animals create the orange before us, only to have it die out, and then we recreated the orange? Did it taste the same?
Don't think about it too hard.

Dear old-fashioned wall phone,
I was impressed to see you framed like a piece of art. You don't meet that definition, but you were an important part of my childhood, just like your evolved model resting on a table. Those were the days when nobody could track you all the time.
You had some disadvantages. Because I grew up in a tiny apartment, and you presided a wall in an equally tiny dining room, your ringing tone was far too loud. You couldn't come up with an excuse for not hearing the phone ring. Also, when I was a teenager, it was important to be careful about what you said and did because everyone else in the room stopped talking. Luckily, my parents weren't the inquisitive type. Nevertheless, my answers were usually monosyllabic.
The search for a phone box was often ruled by Murphy's Law, so I couldn't rely on you in an emergency outside the house. That was a real problem.
On the other hand, you didn't have a screen, nobody would call me to sell me stuff, and Whatsapp wasn't connected to you to make my life even harder.
I could go on and on about you, but I'll stop. You're gone, and so is my youth. We belong to a past time.
It was nice to see you again, though.

You will thank me later for this little pearl of wisdom:P
Halloween originated in Ireland as the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a pagan celebration marking the end of summer and harvest and the beginning of winter. Celebrated on October 31st, it was believed that the veil between the living and the dead blurred on this night, allowing spirits to roam freely. Traditions included lighting bonfires, wearing costumes to ward off spirits, and feasting. The name "Halloween" evolved from "All Hallows' Eve," the night before All Saints' Day on November 1st, and traditions were brought to America by Irish immigrants.
