L'albero è il simbolo della vita, è il collegamento tra la terra e il cielo. Un tempo gli uomini chiedevano alle piante protezione e conforto, illuminazione e consiglio, e intorno ad esse sono fioriti miti e leggende. Così l'albero ha preso diverse sembianze, nomi e poteri, ma è sempre rimasto il simbolo della vita. Gli artisti hanno frequentemente rappresentato gli alberi per la loro bellezza e per le emozioni che ci trasmettono. I colori delle foglie, il groviglio dei rami, le folte chiome, la rugosità delle cortecce, la maestosità e l'imponenza dei fusti, i toni accesi e le varie sfumature di colore toccano da vicino i nostri sentimenti e suscitano emozioni e stati d'animo diversi. L'albero è in continua evoluzione: nasce, cresce, ramifica, si sviluppa, si rigenera continuamente, invecchia e muore. E' immobile ma segna, con i suoi cambiamenti, il passare del tempo, attraverso lo scorrere delle stagioni.

The tree is the symbol of life, it is the connection between the earth and the sky. Once men asked plants for protection and comfort, illumination and advice, and myths and legends flourished around them. Thus the tree has taken on different appearances, names and powers, but it has always remained the symbol of life. Artists have frequently represented trees for their beauty and for the emotions they convey to us. The colors of the leaves, the tangle of the branches, the thick foliage, the roughness of the barks, the majesty and grandeur of the stems, the bright tones and the various shades of color touch our feelings closely and arouse emotions and states of different soul. The tree is constantly evolving: it is born, grows, branches, develops, regenerates continuously, ages and dies. It is immobile but marks, with its changes, the passage of time, through the passing of the seasons.

Slowly showing more and more coloration, this Panther Chameleon (Furcifer pardalis) will have much more red streaking his body in about a year's time. You can already see this coloration coming in around his eyes and mouth, with light flourishes painting his legs and abdomen. He's got loads of crickets to eat before then, though--he eats over a dozen a day!

And chameleons really are quite evolved! Seemingly every facet of their being is highly specialized for survival, from their gripping, pincer like feet, to their prehensile tails, to their separately-swiveling eyes, to their color-shifting skin, to their darting tongues. Most chameleons share these incredible traits, be they tiny Leaf Chameleons (like the smallest of all, Brookesia micra, which grows to only an inch in length) or the Parson's Chameleon, which grows to over 25 inches in length, or the size of a house cat!

This panther chameleon, named Queso, lives in captivity.

The golden-olive woodpecker (Colaptes rubiginosus) is a resident breeding bird from Mexico south and east to Guyana, northwest Argentina, Trinidad and Tobago. It was formerly placed in the genus Piculus. The scientific name rubiginosus means "full of rust", describing the color of the bird's wings and back.

The habitat of this woodpecker is forests, more open woodland, and cultivation. It is most common in the mountains. Due to its habitat—mainly montane forest, separated by large rivers—it has evolved into about 20 subspecies. Andean birds show a pale eyering.

Golden-olive woodpeckers mainly eat insects, including ants and beetle larvae, with some fruit and berries.
