All I can really say is that this show was bigger and better than I had ever hoped for. Evolve took on a life of its own and so many of the artists shared their own powerful stories of overcoming whatever life has tossed along their path.
Over 20 photographers, ceramicists and artists were part of this event. Gay, straight, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender, Black Latino, White, Armenian, poor, broke, rich, wealthy, HIV positive, HIV negative and even two homeless individuals were all artists in this show. The was a direct representation of what Los Angeles looks like and together we showed why we are the City of Angels
About 400 attended the opening at Art Share-LA in Downtown Los Angeles. The event was a complete success with people coming from as far north as Sacramento as far south as San Diego. New York, Denver and even two folks from Atlanta made the trek to the Evolve opening. I was completely blown away.
Big thanks to all the artists for their beautiful pieces, my family, friends and supporters for continuing to embrace my work through Project KengiKat and Do Something Saturday and to everyone who donated and attended the event I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

I wanted to create an illustration based on a puppet that I own. I aimed towards having a simple black and white image as it would be easy to screen print.
I chose to only do the head of the doll as it was the only feature that had detail. I went for a disturbing theme, that ended up with the doll eating the evolved versions of itself, like the food chain.
When it was done, I brought the final illustration to photoshop to have a clear cut version of it and added more detail and fixed any mistakes.

Sharmila Biswas (Kolkata) - Odissi - 19 October 2010 (Tuesday)
A leading dancer and choreographer of Odissi, Sharmila Biswas was initiated by Kalavati Devi and Guru Bipin Singh at Children’s Little Theatre, Calcutta. She, then, came under the tutelage of the doyen of Odissi, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra at the Padatik Dance Centre. Sharmila learnt abhinaya with Kalanidhi Narayanan. Her interest in the origins of Odissi led her to study the vocabularies of Oriya creative arts, including the life and works of the Maharis. She has also trained in several folk and tribal dance and music traditions of the state. Sharmila attended in 1990 the Young Choreographers' Workshop organized by the American Dance Festival where she interacted with eminent choreographers of world repute. Sharmila’s choreography reflects her strong groundwork in the traditional movement skills of India. Proficient equally in classical Odissi and experimental choreographic work, her originality in composition, technique and stage design allows her to explore and create new forms of expression. Variously honoured, Sharmila is the founder chairperson of the Odissi Vision and Movement Centre that promotes Indian dance and music through research, training and performances.
Presentation
The four-part presentation ABAHANI commences with Abahan. Abahan, or Invocation, traditionally seeks to invite the divine to bless the performance. Each dance style has evolved its own gestural and musical expressions for this ritual. Abahan explores these expressions in Odissi. The next piece, Gativilas, is inspired by a Sanskrit verse commonly chanted by rural mridanga players of Orissa. It describes the attributes of an ideal performer, comparing her gait, stance, energy and expressions with those of different animals. Katha Surpanakha, done in the kathakar style, portrays the many contrasting emotions that exist simultaneously in a person. Here, the dancer moves away from the grossness of Surpanakha’s appearance and mind, and attempts to create a more convincing character – her absolute focus on Rama when she sees him, her volatile reactions after, the life-changing realization that follows, and, finally, the grief of rejection. The music for this segment draws on the popular styles of Coastal Orissa and well-known medieval texts, such as Baidihesa Bilasa by Kavisurya Upendra Bhanja and Bichitra Ramayan by Biswanath Khuntia. The fourth and final piece is Murchhana that highlights the special features of Odissi mridanga, and the form of Odissi dance that emerges when accompanied by it.

so we go from carving dark or light rocks onto cave walls to using coal once we discover fire. there's probably a ton i'm skipping until we get to the knive and we have all the 'craig <3 jenny' carved into trees and park benches, and ahh yes, spraypaint. that's a huge one. change out subway windows to plexiglass and we get legendary nyc subway scratching. a little while later graffiti research labs busts out their throwies,... but now we've achieved some kind of pinnacle with AC mutilation...

we intend to communicate fully, i'm pretty sure, but space and time weathers our already eroded meanings. by the time i say the word 'love' even i have already changed its definition in my mind.
There's this book, may be its a comic or a graphic novel, may be its a series of books, maybe its warning signs of a deeper psychological issue. I don't know. But the characters are all there and constantly evolving. Every once in a while it sparks back up in my head and I type or physically write out whatever information wants to get out. Sometimes I have to draw it. Either way its never going to be seen by anyone unless I start showing it. Thus, if its in you to do so, take a look over this chaotic glimpse into my psychie and let me know what you think.
