Flamboyant: "Something that is extravagant or looks flame-like in color or form; having a very noticeable quality that attracts a lot of attention".

Sounds about right for this Roseate :-)

Loads of details in full-screen.

In every possibility of a mind

May you travel, yet not blind.

As a head filled with imagination,

Goes a heart full of gold creation,

It's never too late to have a dream.

Nor is it so far away as it seems,

And, like a rearview mirror reveals,

Thus a fantasy soon becomes real.

It may be closer than it appears.

Or at least it will show up clear.

Never give up a dream for fear!

Every bird photography tutorial says to pull back on the focal length lest you clip the wings should the bird decide to fly. Here's what happens if you don't follow that advice! Backyard birding in Missouri City, Texas.

The Temple Island in Henley-On-Thames is a beautiful little spot tucked away amongst the more exalted bustle of the Henley Regatta. I first caught wind of this place a few years ago when I had been a spectator at the Henley Regatta. Although I wanted to take some shots, there were not a lot of cloud cover to make it worth my while.

As a landscape photographer, everyone would nod their heads in unison that whilst sunny weather is preferred, all sun with little clouds does not really make for some compelling viewing especially at dusk.

So I went back thinking I should be here on other day when the clouds would play ball. Thing is you do not need too much of wind either or your reflection would be shot. So in all, there are a lot of factors that need to come together to get a good photograph of a place. There wasn't much of a wind blowing although there were a lot of boats going backwards and forwards which leaves a big wake every now and then. So you have to time the shot in between such instances.

In all, it was a decent evening's work at the temple island. Midsummer is a good time to be here with the sun setting adjacent to this location.

Every time I think of you

I always catch my breath

And I'm still standing here

And you're miles away

And I'm wondering why you left...

~John Waite

Every once in awhile after going out and taking a bunch of photos, as I am looking at them on my computer, I come across one that haunts me... and I know that I will be going back to retake it, or do something a little bit different with it. This is one of them. I keep wondering WHO should be sitting in these chairs... clearly they are arranged and waiting for a spirited conversation between.... WHO...and and what? Are all the chairs occupied, or Is someone missing? I have to think about this one for a bit. So...expect to see this again!

Who are you missing? I'm sure in these strange times that we are living through, we are all missing something or someone. This is just a story waiting to be written! Stay tuned!

Every year in Spring the Common Cranes arrive in Sweden from Spain and Germany. They have arrived to perform their mating dance. It is a spectacle I have looked forward to for years and it did not disappoint. The first two days the weather was really bad, torrential rain and low visibility and -6deg C

Cranes are monogamous and most arrive with their partners among the thousands of other birds, whooper swans, coots, grebes and geese. The call and noise of these birds is deafening but a sight to behold. Day 3 finally the weather forecast showed good weather but -15C. It was a wonderful red, orange sky, aflame with thousands of birds arriving.

They flew across the flaming sky and danced, pirouetting, bowing which helps in establishing life long bonds with existing and new partners.

When nesting, Common cranes "paint" their bodies with mud or decaying vegetation, apparently in order to blend into their nesting environment. The nest is either in or very near shallow water, often with dense shore vegetation nearby, and may be used over several years.

Mythology has it that the crane, if treated with due respect, will bring luck, success and a long life. Farmers in western Sweden have a long tradition of paying homage to the bird by mimicking its leggy gait in a ritual dance around the farmhouse.

An amazing experience despite the freezing temperatures and one that I will always remember.

From Sonnet 18

It is well known now as Shakespeare's phrase "The Darling Buds of May" was used as the title for his novel by H.E. Bates... which has since been adapted for television too 😊

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate:

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm'd;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;

Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Every sunset has its own beauty. Sometimes it's the clouds that make the scene spectacular. Sometimes it's the sun that dives into the sea. Sometimes it's just the warmth you get from the colors and the feeling that you are the viewer of one of nature's most spectacular sights. You don't have to think about composition rules, settings and POVs. The beauty is there.. All you have to do is hit the shutter speed and forget about the rest.. chances are that you just captured something amazing.

This is a view of the Seattle skyline after a series of storms fiercely roiled above the city off and on throughout the day.

Seattle, in Spring, is one of those cities when almost every type of weather imaginable is listed -- and SERVED -- on the menu from hour to hour, or every 30 minutes. Take a sip of your drink as I set the scene for you.

You are figuratively sitting at the table, wholeheartedly curious to see what will be featured in the next course because Chef Mother Nature is bringing out her very best today: high winds and drizzle, some "shy-and-goodbye" sunshine, a feast of tempest teasers, more "peek-a-boo" sunshine, a feisty storm and sun combo with a side of rainbow delight, etc. Sometimes you want your taste buds to get accustomed to the new flavors, but often, you don't have time because the next meal has just been prepared for your consumption. The Chef does not care if you haven't had time to acclimate. This is her show.

You get the picture...well, you literally are about to now!

After all the different meals, you are stuffed. However, though your hunger has been overwhelmingly satiated, and your palate has experienced a multitude of spices and seasonings, you know you need to end the meal with an appetizing, gooey, decadent dessert. (Plus, you know it's coming after that fiesta of diverse foods). On this day, we were treated to an intriguing mix of orange and peach skies with smooth breezes above the bay to close the day. Scrumptious, sweet, and delicious, yes?

Alas, I hope you enjoyed our dessert. I know I did.

While it seems every man and his dog were up the S&C again, I decided on a more local outing. Not being arsed to have a full day out and seeing 419 was allocated to this, there was really only one option in my opinion. Having done my local spots to death with this train and still not succeeding with the sun, I travelled further up the coast for a more scenic, picturesque view. St Bees is the location and running 46 minutes early, 37419 heads north with the usual monthly 1q47 Derby-Carlisle test train. 37423 was on the rear. Had it been on time it would've been touch and go with the sun as a bank of cloud had started to roll in by then.

Now thats just about every 37 nailed on this train, all I need now is 37425 in it's Regional Railway's livery to complete the set!!

Ponder

To think carefully about something, especially for a noticeable length of time

Ponderings is a series of semi-abstract photos of water features with vegetation, in which the light seems to play a game with our perception. The works not only contain reflections, but perhaps also invite us to reflect. From this principle, the name Ponderings originated.

'Every Chance That I Take' (together with other Ponderings) were on display for the first time at the PAN Amsterdam art fair 24/11 - 01/12 at the Amsterdam RAI.

A threefer! One flower and two bees.

Tall Globe-thistle: European species of globe thistle in the family Asteraceae. It is native to central and eastern Europe from Germany and Italy east into Russia. The species has escaped cultivation and become established in the wild in scattered locations in eastern Canada and the northern United States.

It is the largest of all globe thistles, a branching perennial herb up to 150 cm (60 inches or 5 feet) tall. One plant can produces several flower heads, each with a very nearly spherical array of white or pale blue disc florets but no ray florets.

Brown-belted Bumble Bee (lower centre): It is native to much of the United States except for the Southwest, and to the southernmost regions of several of the provinces of Canada. This bumblebee can occupy many kinds of habitat, including meadows, wetlands, agricultural fields, and urban areas, even densely populated cities.

Western Honey Bee (upper right): One of the first domesticated insects, and the primary species maintained by beekeepers to this day for both its honey production and pollination activities. With human assistance, the western honey bee now occupies every continent except Antarctica. (Wikipedia)

We visited the Ornamental Gardens, part of Ottawa's Experimental Farm a couple of weeks ago. These thistle flowers were just alive with bees and other pollinators. I was lucky to capture this flower head with two different bee species.
