The photo was taken at sunset. We had an unusual October storm in Southern California during the day. Late afternoon to early evening the storm had cleared but clouds remained. In fact the ocean was rather calm despite the days storm and another storm was only a day or two away.

Bands of colour in the water from a nice evening sky at Bassenthwaite Lake . A little light left over by Walla Crag. High water meant no foreground rocks to use !

Lucerne, a compact city in Switzerland known for its preserved medieval architecture, sits amid snowcapped mountains on Lake Lucerne. Its colorful Altstadt (Old Town) is bordered on the north by 870m Museggmauer (Musegg Wall), a 14-century rampart. The covered Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge), built in 1333, links the Aldstadt to the Reuss River's right bank.

Amazing to see where I live from above. Mind you I dont live on this island. Lambay island is about 4 miles from Rush in North Dublin.

Hopefully I will get closer when I get used to the drone.

Kolmanskop is an old deserted mining town 12 kilometres inland from Luderitz in southern Namibia.

It's a strange and eerie place. It was abandoned 60 years ago and the shifting sands have taken over many of the buildings.

A wonderful place to wander around with your camera.

"In 1908 the worker Zacharias Lewala found a diamond while working in this area and showed it to his supervisor, the German railway inspector August Stauch. Realizing the area was rich in diamonds, German miners began settlement, and soon after the German government declared a large area as a 'Sperrgebiet', starting to exploit the diamond field.

Driven by the enormous wealth of the first diamond miners, the residents built the village in the architectural style of a German town, with amenities and institutions including a hospital, ballroom, power station, school, skittle-alley, theatre and sport-hall, casino, ice factory and the first x-ray-station in the southern hemisphere, as well as the first tram in Africa. It had a railway link to Lüderitz."

It was a beautiful summer evening. The sun was about to sink into horizon and painted the grass on the field in soft golden colors.

We were excited to spot a pair of Evening Grosbeaks in our back yard and not wanting to scare them away I opened a window and was able to take a few shots. This is larger than I'd prefer to post the photo but in the haste I never thought to reduce the zoom on the camera and the bird sitting only a few feet away. Interestingly, the weather was misting rain and cloudy but the photo was taken at 100 iso? I always have the camera set to 'auto iso' which in those conditions would likely have read 3200 or so. Also the photos on the camera monitor were totally black so this was lightened using a large adjustment in post editing exposure compensation. After adjusting the camera setting it worked again but the blue jays had by then bothered the grosbeaks enough that they left. We did see them again briefly yesterday so hopefully they will visit on a sunny day.

Thank you for viewing.
