'Twas noontide of summer,

And mid-time of night;

And stars, in their orbits,

Shone pale, thro' the light

Of the brighter, cold moon,

'Mid planets her slaves,

Herself in the Heavens,

Her beam on the waves.

I gazed awhile

On her cold smile;

Too cold- too cold for me-

The evening glow of lower Manhattan on a September night.

A beautiful evening in Heidelberg. Here I captured both sunset and twilight in one photo by using time blending. So I actually took a photo just before the sun dipped behind the hills in the background and then another photos around 40 minutes later with the city and the castle lit up.

Both were combined in photosshop, as you can see in my latest Youtube Tutorial.

Another one at Radhanagar Beach, Havelock

More passenger action, that could have been posted on MLW Monday but there would have been protests! I know, you either love 'em or hate 'em, and nothing beats an FPA4 leading a passenger train, but fresh out of the box LRC trains at least looked cool and well, different. thursday is the day before the day before weekend...

Beams of early evening light on Eastern Sierra aspen groves.

As I photographed here in the late afternoon I was keeping an eye on the sun as it descended toward clouds and the Sierra crest to the west. These trees are beautifully back-lit by late afternoon sun, but it looked like that light source might disappear early behind the clouds. But as it turned out, the partially blocked light created an unusual and dramatic effect as beams of light highlighted trees against the darker background.

I think that we like to flatter ourselves about our ability to find and take advantage of subjects and great light. We sure put a lot of effort into searching out visually interesting locations than then being there when the light is likely to be ideal. But in the end we are, to a great extent, at the mercy of conditions. Sometimes that is a problem, but on evenings like this one the light gods send us a gift.

This evening in the village.

Death Valley, California.

One of the first lessons of photography is to always turn and look at what's in back of what your are shooting, because sometimes the spectacle in front of us also shines light on what's behind us. One mile in altitude above Badwater Basin, I have come to Dante's View in the Black Mountains, to watch the sun set behind the Panamint Range to the west. It is a spectacular view point with a precipitous drop, all the way to the salt flats on the floor of Death Valley. The sun is crouched behind a cloud out there, sending great streaks of light across the jagged peaks, at an angle that still doesn't totally penetrate to the depth of the valley--an image I will share at another time perhaps. But for now, I remembered to look back,for this view down the Amargosa Range. Coffin Peak drops more gradually from this side, the flank ridges forming a gunsite of sorts, aiming into the skyline of peaks beyond. The sky seems to literally come at me from this angle, clouds parting to either side of me as though I am unmovable, like water around an island in the stream. Geologically old, you look out into time here, and after awhile in the quiet, time creeps into my thoughts as well. As I watch, a spotlight appears on a mountainside down the line. Maybe it symbolizes a path, a route, that I could have done better, could have done different. I always think so...I wonder how you ever know, really, the best way. The view behind me is always of remembrance, and some things are stripped and barren when I look back. But memory has many landscapes, and to say mine are all this simple would not be fair. I look for as long as I dare while waiting for the end of this day, before I turn around again, and face into it.

I returned to one of my favourite locations earlier this month and managed to get this. Nothing exactly exciting about the subject, but I like the overall image.

The sun sets as the condominiums are reflected in the water.

If you can't come up with characters, don’t waste your time and leave them alone. It is always possible to create a story without minifigures in the frame. This is exactly what I did when I took a vacation-themed photo to support a contest on @brickcentral

Never be afraid to give the viewer the opportunity to dream up and finish the plot on their own. Build the scenery and place hints with parts and accessories. Who are these people who rest here? What are they talking about behind the scenes? Can you smell the pool water still churning after someone's jump? Just imagine a relaxing saturday evening by the pool.

Quite harsh light here but I don't think that the A7Rv is as good as coping with this as the A1.

93:121 Something that makes you happy.

Seeing a rare bird makes me happy. Having a large group of rare birds camp out in the woods behind my house and eat at my feeders every day for nearly a month makes me wildly happy. This is an Evening Grosbeak, and it rarely comes as far south as Georgia. They are once in a lifetime bird for most birders. A large group of these birds have been at my feeder every day since January 23. They like me, I guess, and I love them.
