Amazing flowers on the hike down from a sunrise spot at Delicate Arch in Arches National Park
Tonights view after several days of snow and clouds. Clear sky with dropping temperature will ice most of this over.
We had boarded our cruise ship at the port and the ship was to depart at 5 PM but evening was coming as the red clouds reflect the light of a tired sun going to sleep. I found the single container unloading structure to be an interesting anomaly... The Vincent Thomas Bridge is the road crossing the waterway.

WWII Fire control towers at Cape Henlopen State Park. on the Rehoboth Beach side, Delaware. The towers somehow remind me of the Pacman video game, each with a "mouth" to gobble up the wind and rains.

I went out expecting to get one of those pretty "orange ball" sunsets enhanced by the smoky haze from the wildfires in the western US and Canada. That didn't work out, but the haze still worked to produce some nice sunset colors.

Said to have many health benefits, especially for older folk. Even if it doesn't, the flowers which bloom in the evening are so bright and cheerful that it does one good just to see them. My garden seems to have been taken over by wild flowers!
Yesterday evening in the backyard.
I had been watching the clouds build up during the late afternoon and waited until late evening to get this result. A very impressive sunset.

This was my first visit to Smith Rock, so being me I naturally avoided the traditional image and went off the beaten track looking unique compositions. Unfortunately, we had a bit of a tame evening in terms of color, but I really like the mood in this image and the lovely pattern in the foreground rock.

... some denizens of the underground. In spite of the loud sound that my camera's shutter makes, I sometimes attempt to take shots of people at closer range. In this case, it made that man look towards me, which made the photo more interesting ...

Chania Venetian Harbour
The Venetian harbour of Chania was built by the Venetians between 1320 and 1356. The harbour was used for commerce and also to control the Sea of Crete against pirates.
The Venetian harbour had room for 40 galleys, but it constantly silted up and was never very deep, so it kept having to be dredged, a difficult job with the equipment of the time.
On its north side the harbour is protected by a breakwater. Near the middle of this is a small bulwark like a gun emplacement and the tiny chapel of St Nicholas. This was where the Venetians and Turks executed condemned prisoners.
The Firkas Fortress at the harbour entrance and the St Nicholas bastion in the middle of the breakwater defended the harbour from raiders.
Today, the Venetian harbour offers moorage for fishing boats and other small craft, while the commercial and passenger port of Chania is seven kilometres to the east, in Souda Bay.
The lighthouse is a distinctive feature of the harbour. It was built at the harbour entrance by the Venetians and restored in its present form by the Egyptians (1830-1840). The lighthouse of the Venetian harbour of Chania always fascinates visitors and is one of the most-photographed monuments in Crete.

The next evening, the post-coital bliss of the hunt had worn off, and I sat contemplating my own monstrousness. I had come a far way from the humans on whom I preyed. I had once been like them: weak, oblivious of the dark, full of the petty concerns of day to day existence. I read newspaper accounts of the event: there'd been an attack at a popular gay cruising spot, blood had been found, but no victims would come forward. Various theories abounded that it was a hate crime, while others blamed the victims, characterizing the attack as some kind of divine vengeance for their immorality. I had to laugh at that one - if they only knew there were much worse things out there than gay sex! I wasn't worried about the human justice system catching up with me, as no one actually believed in vampires. If the guy who'd rescued his friend tried to report me, they'd likely prescribe some drugs for him and place him in the same category as people who saw flying saucers.
I wasn't even worried about the others of my kind - they tended to slink around in the shadows, or blow a lot of hot air without ever following up on their empty threats. No, the danger came from my own self-disgust. It goaded me into riskier and riskier acts. One day, I was sure to go too far. That day hadn't come yet.
I watched the inky shadows seep across the remains of the evening and thought about what had brought me to this existence...
It's somewhat a common flower that grows from Canada down to Florida. They spread easily by means of extending roots underground.
I prize them because of their "just right " hue of yellow that is somewhat luminous in bright light,and early spring flowering.

Beach evening-primrose (Oenothera drummondii subsp. drummondii) is regarded as an environmental weed in eastern Queensland and south-western Western Australia, and as a potential environmental weed in South Australia.

A scrambling or climbing plant with stems growing up to 4 m long. Its shiny bright green leaves are alternately arranged, stalkless, and usually have short tendrils (1-2 cm long) at their tips. Its showy flowers have six large 'petals' (5-8 cm long) that are usually bright red or orange with yellow markings. Their 'petals' have wavy edges and are strongly turned backwards. Its fruit are fleshy capsules (3-10 cm long and 1-2 cm wide) containing many large (4-5 mm long), round, reddish seeds. All parts of this plant are toxic to humans and animals if ingested especially the fleshy tubers.

First time I have seen this bird around my garden, a pair of Evening Grosbeaks enjoyed foraging around the vegetable plot (and weeds). Thought they would be up in the mountains by now
