There's roughing it type of camping and there is camping with essentials. I will admit that when it's cold and rainy outside, the latter suits me just fine - as it did here when we were on our way back from Atlantic Canada last month and camped in an oTENTik.

When all the world appears to be in a tumult, and nature itself is feeling the assault of climate change, the seasons retain their essential rhythm. Yes, fall gives us a premonition of winter, but then, winter, will be forced to relent, once again, to the new beginnings of soft greens, longer light, and the sweet air of spring. Madeleine M. Todays challenge for the daily shoot was, What tools do you use and appreciate on a daily basis? Make an interesting photo of one such tool today.

Well I considered taking a shot of some of the tools out of my toolbox I keep in my office, but then thought about it, there really for decoration as I do not do hands on tech work any more so when I thought about it I had to get a shot of these, Not sure I appreciate the blackberry, but I am addicted to it and would be lost without my android Nexus one cellphone

Of course beingme I slipped in a little bit of reflection

Update on Dr's visit, it went well, not likely i will need surgery, it sees the problem is something I have had all my life, basically my knees are deformed and my knee cap doesnt sit where it should, so I start on Physical therapy on Monday twice a week for 6 weeks which hopefully will alleviate or ease the issues I have had

Standing before the Viaur railway viaduct, I wanted to move beyond engineering prowess to reveal the dream woven into steel. By framing the structure diagonally and stripping away all context, reducing the scene to black and white, I sought to exalt the raw power of metal, the complex interplay of bracings, and the graphic tension of a suspended work.

My intention is to invite the viewer to see this giant not as a bridge, but as calligraphy traced across the sky—a monumental signature in lines and rhythms, of light and shadow. In this abstraction, matter becomes drawing, and technique transforms into poetry.

Through this gaze, I celebrate the essential: the human gift for shaping—and imagining—the landscape. The Viaur, in this frame, is a symbolic passageway: it joins the force of engineering with the creative breath of the imagination, bridging earth and idea, utility and art.

- Baltasar Gracian.

In an earlier post, I mentioned some of my struggles, as a landscape photographer, with a clear blue sky. Often, the sky plays an essential role in many compositions, and having a bland sky can rob a scene of drama in most cases. While the main shot didn’t work very well for me at Hawksbill Crag/Whitaker point, on our way back, I noticed some attractive light on the other side of the ridge. Most of the trees were in the shade, but the warm sunset light lit up the top of some of the taller trees. With the wide-angle or normal focal lengths, this shot didn’t look that good, but at 70mm, I could exclude the sky from the scene, and suddenly the image looked a lot better. I loved the patterns of the trees in this shot and the contrast the light provided in the scene.

Yesterday, I timed my trip to get essential supplies from Locks Heath centre with the arrival of 67188 on the X5 for Southampton. Previously solely operated on the Eclipse (and to that end, only with the destinations programmed in), the Enviros have now spread their wings following the introduction of the Covid-19 timetables.

Each day, it appears that between two and five Eclipse Enviros operate on the X4 and X5.

delicate arch - arches national park utah

The backside view of Delicate Arch just before sunset. Delicate Arch is a giant 52ft (16m) tall freestanding sandstone arch located in Arches National Park near the town of Moab, Utah. My tourist map said that Delicate Arch was the most recognizable natural landmark in the USA and the most photographed arch in the world.

More than you probably want to know:

This was my first visit to Delicate Arch and I learned a few things: The Delicate Arch ‘Viewpoint’ is different than the Delicate Arch ‘Trailhead’. I made the mistake of climbing 3/4 miles up to the viewpoint only to realize the actual Delicate Arch was off on another cliff . . ugg! I went back to the trailhead and climbed 1.5 miles up to Delicate Arch, not a big distance but it's uphill and kind of tough especially after lugging camera gear around the park all day. I should have left non-essentials in the car like my my big heavy zoom but I was happy to have water and a flash light to help guide me down the dark tail after sunset. Best lesson learned; if you stand in front of the arch too long, expect to get yelled at in 10 different languages by all the photog’ers working that once-in-a-lifetime shot :D

Get your essentials from the street hawker, and let's take in some of the places and things that are essential for any first time visit to China. Be warned though, that you will be dragged through merchants' stores where high pressure selling of over priced knock off rubbish is almost impossible to avoid. Capitalism is alive and well in Communist China. I refused to enter these establishments on my second visit; I hated these places.

Waterfilm is a series filmed since 2012 based on the idea of filming with a freehand camera for a period of exactly one minute. This series illustrates the meditative qualities of water in an urban environment. It is my belief that the close observation of this essential element has the ability to influence our perceptions. Each film is intended to be a short meditation – take your time to feel it, but don’t swim away too far...
