During the eruption on February 8, 2012 after a long walk at night on the snowcapped slopes of the volcano Etna this is what I found.
I stumbled onto this outdoor scene when barn hunting over near Columbus, Georgia. The home that was attached to the fireplace is long gone. The old fireplace was being used as a cooking grill and they have an outhouse close by for the two essentials for an outdoor cookout. There were trash and beer cans everywhere and I removed them from the image.

This Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill (Tockus leucomelas), on its way to deliver food to a chick in the nest, was photographed in the wild in the Kruger National Park.
With its long neck a "Great Blue Heron" makes it appear easy to preen even the most awkwardly positioned feathers on its body.
Birds preen in order to keep their feathers in the best condition. While preening they remove dust, dirt and parasites and align each feather to its optimum position relative to adjacent feathers and body shape. Most birds will preen several times a day. Most birds contain a uropygial gland or preen gland witch is found near the base of the tail and produces an oily, waxy substance that helps waterproof the feathers and keep them flexible. While preening, the birds spread this oil to each feather so they are evenly coated and moisturized which keeps their feathers flexible and strong.
In a world that often rushes past the small things, the work of a bee reminds us what truly matters.

We intended going up for day gas to see the normal SD70ACe pair, but a surprise came when we saw it come west with the essential workers unit trailing, meaning it would lead back east later. In this photo, we got a break in the clouds, and the 4404 leads Day Gas east, sweeping around the curve near Plains. An unexpected, but very welcome sight.
