This event, although pleasant and uplifting, was a lost opportunity. The original location was moved because of objections from a corporation and the VicPD. Moving protest to when and where they are told to perform reduces the events from a show of solidarity with the Idle No More movement to a tourist attraction and an enjoyable event for the indigenous community.

What all of these people—the reactionary citizen, judges, and the naive INM participant—don’t realize is that the reason the state and its police forces “fail to act” is that they fear the greater potential disruption that Indigenous peoples are capable of.
So while some INM’ers believe they are leading a “peaceful” Indigenous Rights Revolution, they are actually benefiting from the militant grassroots resistance that preceded them, gained through blood, sweat, and tears, assaults, arrests, and in some cases death. Perhaps if they knew their history better, they would understand this.

The painfully obvious weakness of the Idle No More movement;

What is the value of protest when governments’ ignore? When is civil disobedience not civil disobedience? What is a protest without a line drawn? How despicable and atrocious must our leaders’ actions be before the sheeple herd together and stampede through legislature door to stop what must be stopped? Without direct action there is no incentive for government to listen; institutions can only be motivated to change through financial profit or fear.
When a civil action is disguised as an act of civil disobedience, it likely costs the taxpayer as much expense as Black Bloc activists breaking windows, with far less impact and attention. When advocates of peaceful protest, such as picnics on the legislature lawn or hikes through city streets, denounce the actions of the Black Bloc, they only hinder advancements of their cause, and those who are willing to do more than they in the name of justice.
