Amazingly my Japanese Anemones survived yesterday's winds. Love these flowers although unfortunately as they disappear so does our summer!
Patience Pays
The Malachite Kingfisher is a small bird of the family Alcedinidae, or river kingfishers. These are patient, fairly common birds of sub-Saharan Africa that can be seen perching on reeds or other vegetation near slow moving water or ponds, from which they hunt. Patience pays for these colorful birds that remain quite still until the appropriate prey arrive. Approached with equal patience, one can observe these quick, direct flying birds and they drop rapidly to the water to capture a fish, crustacean, or insect, swallowing it whole, head first. With a striking metallic blue upper body and orange-red bill and feet, these birds are magnificent find, well worth the patience it takes to seek them out and observe their activities. This didn't look like a fecal sac to me but since it was outgoing it must have been!!

On a dark cold afternoon, a Golden-Crowned Sparrow fluffs up to keep warm while taking in a rest from foraging for food.
These guys actually have it good around here. lol I put out Safflower seeds and during the colder days, I make up a mixture of lard, peanut butter and quick oats which the birds absolutely love!
I heat up equal parts of lard and peanut butter in a pot and than once melted I dump in quick oats and mix. I cool it in the fridge and than squish some into a shallow dish and place outside. Once they get a taste for it, I can go through tons! lol
I don't normally take pics of birds face on, but this little guys face was way too adorable to not to! lol
