I needed to shake things up so I switched from my macro lens to my 50mm f/1.4 prime lens this weekend. I had forgotten how much I love this lens. So fast, such gorgeous blur. It helped me see differently - so much fun! :)
I just got back from a quick trip to Walt Disney World. This wasn't a photo trip, but of course I couldn't pass up a few opportunities to use the camera. A few of us were hanging out at Epcot and wanted to watch IllumiNations with the seasonal Holiday tag and I couldn't decide whether I wanted to photograph the show or not. I knew I wasn't really interested in shooting from the usual locations and in conversation, one idea led to another and ultimately I ended up at one of my favorite monorail spots. Go figure... I only had one camera and one lens with me so thanks to Kevin Davis for telling me he brought a strobe and UWA lens because once that was established, there was no turning back. I was going to attempt this shot.
It's been a few years since I have done a shot like this. Yes, there's a lot going on. Sure, it's a little over the top but love them or hate them, I really enjoy the challenge.

This past spring we had a hail storm which damaged our roof. We recently had the roof replaced (thanks to our insurance company). It took 1 day for the roofers to rip up the old shingles and replace with new ones. I'm sure the China roof took many weeks to construct. It's amazing the amount of detail given to this building.

Holiday fireworks framing the Christmas tree at Epcot.
I've never given much thought to all the musical interludes in this show, but after watching it from under the monorail track I think that will change. Every time the fireworks stopped people assumed the show was over and started walking out. If I recall correctly there are two times during the show that the fireworks stop and it's just music. Both times a huge wave of people left thinking the show was over. Then after the regular show the announcer comes back on to introduce the holiday addendum; another wave of people leave. Once more during the holiday segment there is a break, yep, another wave of people leave. The whole time this was happening the monorail track seemed to be a sort of magical decision barrier. Once people had passed it they kept going, but if the show started back up before they got to it they'd turn around.

A visit to Epcot.
Epcot, a theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort, consists of two sections—Future World and World Showcase which are patterned after the types of exhibits found at world expositions and in its early years, it was often called a "permanent World's Fair."
The background pavilions in this shot are the glass pyramids of Imagination! on the left and the top of The Land on the right. Epcot has many beautiful flowers, lakes, and trees and a fascinating Monorail and I'm glad to have found a way to include them in this capture. Below is a capture of the iconic and symbolic structure of Epcot, Spaceship Earth and a sunset capture of Future World.

This photo was taken couple minutes after fireworks show and the effects show in the air with a smoky looking atmosphere. This photo also has some noise considering it was a hand-held shot. It was a nice day at the food and wine festival here at The Epcot.
