Jessie Chavez, a Google software engineer in the company's Chicago office, discussed computer science careers Wednesday during a presentation at three Aurora middle schools called "You Can Do Computer Science." Coordinated by Google and the STEM Partnership School at Aurora University, the event exposed more than 160 local eighth-grade students to the benefits of careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Virginia National Guard Soldiers representing the 229th Brigade Engineer Battalion and the Recruiting and Retention Battalion claim top honors at the 2022 Virginia Army National Guard Best Warrior competition April 3, 2022, at the State Military Reservation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Spc. Adam Marcus, assigned to Headquarters Company, 229th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 29th Infantry Division, won Soldier of the Year, while Staff Sgt. I discovered last night, whilst taking photos of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, that my Sony DT 1.8/50 SAM lens suffers from extreme amounts of sensor reflection in situations with bright spots of light. Whilst it delivers a cool effect in some instances (I think I like the reflection more than the real image in this picture), it's irritating that I can't seem to get rid of it in shots that I don't want it.

The best North Carolina National Guard engineers compete at the 105th Engineer Battalion Sapper States Invitational, held at Fort Bragg, N.C., Sept. 12 - 13. Six trials of brain and brawn hide in a one-kilometer circle in the woods and hills of the fort. SAVANNAH, Ga. – Workers pile debris into a pit of fire at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah harbor dredge disposal area "1N" at Onslow Island, Dec. 4, 2013. Using a clean process called air curtain burning, the Corps and contractor staff safely disposed of vegetation debris that was cleared from the site. Air curtain burning involves a trailer-mounted air blower that generates a barrier or curtain of air over a fire burning pit. The process limits the amount of smoke released into the air during the burning process. The curtain of air traps the smoke and forces it back into the hot, burning fire to be combusted instead of escaping into the atmosphere. The 1N dredge disposal area has not been actively used for dredging in the last 15 years, but thanks to a new revitalization effort between the Corps and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the area is being restored. When complete, it will give the Corps additional capacity to store dredged material from the harbor, while also functioning as a wildlife habitat for waterfowl and other species.
