This is a photo of my grandad (the one in the middle) at his daily work, he was an early telephone engineer and I remember my mum telling me he used to clim up the wooden telegraph poles. I think you can see the evidence of his job in and around the barrow - the wire, the long ladders and I think some transmitters of sorts on the ground. c 1940s/1950s

Months in the making, E got to be an engineer and drive an engine at the Great Northern and Cascade Railway in Skykomish WA.
Every February we renew our membership at a model train show and this past year, E was telling Kevin, the president of the railway, how they we essentially counting down the years until he could operate and drive a train. Kevin said we could probably make this a reality and I mentioned for E's birthday in September would probably be a good plan.
So here we are seven months later and E is being the engineer of their own train.
Two funny things. One, we got our most recent newsletter and membership badges just days ago and E was really excited. They have GN&C Ry lanyards reserved for each year they are old and the one they have set aside for their eleventh birthday has an engineer pin on it. I made sure to bring it with today.
The other thing that was pretty neat is E loved driving the train for themselves and then eventually for their family, but what they wanted most was to drive a train for other people he didn't know. To really feel like a true engineer, they'd drive around people who chose to come to the railway independently.

An epic trip - 6-hours, 30-miles from Ouray to Lake City, Colorado - with rough rocky patches, switchbacks, shelf roads, and sweeping vistas all the way, reaching almost 13,000 feet at the summit. A Jeep Badge of Honor trail for good reason.
From TrailsOffroad.com: In the late 1800’s, miners started digging for gold, silver, lead and other ore in the San Juan Mountains. They needed a way to get people and the ore out to the nearby towns. Those roads left by the long-abandoned mines are now some of the most famous off-road trails in the books. Engineer Pass, a 30-mile trail, is one of them and is part of a trail now known as the Alpine Loop.
There are multiple mine ruins to view and explore the grounds of along the way including the Hard Tack Mine and the Michael Breen Mine.
Mile after mile provides new and more amazing views of Colorado and the San Juan mountains. Oh Point and the official summit have breath-taking panoramas of the mountains.
This trail goes well above the timberline at just over 12,900’. With the altitude comes stunning views of the mountains to the north including the Uncompahgre, Coxcomb, Wetterhorn and Wildhorse mountain peaks. The view is so expansive at Oh Point that on a very clear day, you might be able to see all the way to Utah if you turn your eyes to the west.

From 1984-1995 she has served in numerous engineering, operations and R&D assignments in various DuPont businesses. From 1996 to 2000, she was manager for various Engineering positions.
In 2001, she was named executive assistant to the chairman and CEO. In 2002 she was named director - DuPont Engineering and Research Technology and in 2004 she became director - DuPont Capital Asset Productivity. In 2006 she was named director - DuPont Leveraged Operations. Later in 2006 she became managing director, DuPont Facilities and Capital Asset Productivity. She was named vice president - DuPont Engineering in January 2008 and to her current position September 1, 2008.
Ms. Scott chaired the 2008 CURT (Construction Users Roundtable) National Conference. In addition to participating on various industry advisory boards, she has served on the Committee of Visitors for the Division of Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental and Transport Systems (CBET) of the National Science Foundation. Ms. Scott is a member of the AIChE Foundation Board of Trustees and serves on the Board of Directors for Planned Parenthood of Delaware.
Ms. Scott was recently appointed to the study committee of the National Academy of Engineering to investigate the cause and recommend preventive measures for the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill.
Ms. Scott graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in chemical engineering in 1981. She received a master's degree in Chemical Engineering Practice from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in 1983 and received a degree of chemical engineer in 1984, also from M.I.T.

LOS ANGELES — Employees from around the Los Angeles District gathered for the annual Engineer Day and Awards Ceremony at Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area near Irwindale, Calif., June 24.
Los Angeles District Commander Col. Mark Toy welcomed everyone and mentioned that as a USMA graduate he was very pleased with the motto selection, Duty, Honor, Country, the motto of West Point. He said it is also the District’s foundation as we are Building Strong and Taking Care of People.
With 90 employees receiving length of service certificates ranging from ten to 45 years it is clearly appropriate as a tribute to them and the thousands of Soldiers and Civilians serving in 39 countries around the world.
The day featured “County Fair” type events for kids of all ages and several teambuilding challenges with the "Future Chiefs" defeating "The Chiefs" seven to three in Ultimate Frisbee. The 2011 Picnic Committee ensured a wide range of activity and a raffle drawing to close out the day with prizes like iPad, LCD TV and gift certificates.

These 200-C type constants are fabricated from A-36 carbon steel and are designed for a load ranging between 17,800 lb. and 25,600 lb. The constants have a downward travel ranging between 12 1/2" and 16". This support maintains a constant load throughout the designed travel. The diameter of the spring coil housing is 21". The design includes a universal locking device capable of locking the hanger rod at any desired position. It also includes lifting lugs that aid in installing the constant in the field. Standard load and travel testing was performed before shipping to a steam plant.

RECOLETA CEMETARY
La Recoleta Cemetery is a famous cemetery located in the exclusive Recoleta neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The layout of the cemetery was designed by the French engineer Próspero Catelin, and was remodeled in 1881, while Torcuato de Alvear was mayor of the city, by the Italian architect Juan Antonio Buschiazzo.
The Cemetery includes graves of some of the most influential and important persons of Argentina, including several presidents, scientists, and wealthy characters. Internationally, Eva Perón is the best known person buried in this cemetery.
The entrance to the cemetery is through neo-classical gates with tall Greek columns. The cemetery contains many elaborate marble mausoleums, decorated with statues, in a wide variety of architectural styles. The entire cemetery is laid out in sections like city blocks, with wide tree-lined main walkways branching into sidewalks filled with mausoleums.
While many of the mausoleums are in fine shape and well-maintained, others have fallen into disrepair. Several can be found with broken glass, littered with rubbish, and on occasion you might find a mausoleum being used as a janitorial supply closet, with cleaning and maintenance products stored on top of coffins.
Each mausoleum bears the family name etched into the facade; brass or bronze plaques are added to the front for particular family members. La Recoleta is one of those cemeteries where the tradition of engraving a death date but no birth date has been maintained.
One interesting and unique aspect of La Recoleta is a colony of feral cats that resides within the gates. Although they can be spotted anytime, they tend to gather in groups of dozens near closing-time, when some locals feed them.
The cemetery was featured in the educational film Destinos as the final resting spot of a wife of the main character.

The Afghanistan Engineer District-South spent a few hours celebrating the engineer corps together over a delicious barbecue dinner as well as honoring our district family members who have completed their tours of duty. Maj. Gen. Michael Eyre, commander of the Transatlantic Division, presented awards to Cornelius Cheatham, Pedro Davila, and Karla Marshall. Verna Nelson was awarded the Commander’s Weekly Award for exceptional service.
The 542nd Engineer Detachment welcomed incoming commander Maj. John L. Beck and said farewell to outgoing commander Maj. Jared E. Runge during a change of command ceremony at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District headquarters, Jan. 18, 2012. Maj. Gen. Todd Semonite, commander of the Corps' South Atlantic Division, led the ceremony and presented awards to the team.
The 542nd Engineer Detachment is one of several Forward Engineer Support Teams - Advanced (FEST-A) within the Corps of Engineers and recently returned from a 6-month deployment to Iraq in late 2011.
